Re: What are signs of GD?
nope, not really.
but I DID suspect I would get it, just from pre-pregnancy observations....
Whenever I eat a pasta dinner I fall asleep an hour later I also have always tended to avoid sugary foods and drinks, almost instinctually.
I have a moderate familial history of diabetes, and I am overweight... (also somewhat heavier than you would expect considering my diet and activity level). While I never had sugar in a urine sample, I always suspected I was on the cusp of a sugar issue.
So I think it is more what your family history is, along with other risk factors and prior experiences, than it is having a symptom during pregnancy.
(after all pregnancy symptoms and diabetes symptoms overlap... thirst, excess urination.... no way to tell!)

Re: What are signs of GD?
I had no signs of GD when I was diagnosed or if I did it was nothing different from what you would normally feel in a regular pregnancy so I had no idea.

Re: What are signs of GD?
I just posted about this as I just found out tonight I have GD. I don't have any family history of diabetes nor am I overweight. I'm still completely shocked...I read that some symptoms are being tired, thristy and more hungry but I attributed all of these symptoms to pregnancy symptoms....so I had NO idea.

Re: What are signs of GD?
well, not everyone has risk factors. my SIL had it, and she is very thin and no one in DH's family ever had diabetes...
It really just means that the placenta is releasing hormones that your body can't adapt to.... that's it...
don't worry... most GD cases are not THAT difficult to manage... It hasn't cramped my style too much... and besides, it's over within a few months.....

I asked my dr today, he said you really don't show signs.

Re: What are signs of GD?
My friend had it and said she did feel signs: faint when not eating often enough and shaky after eating sugary things. She started feeling this in the 2nd tri-she ended up having to go on insulin but she was PG with twins which increases your chances
