Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long) UPDATE!! 8/19/08

I am having a hard time holding it together. Yesterday I went to my RE for my 6 week sono. (Very early but procdure after IVF). I was 6 weeks exactly yesterday. As he was scanning me he was very quiet for some time and started asking me if I had any staining or bleeding. I said no, and my heart was beating out of my chest. Then he said "oh, there it is, but I don't see a fetus, well maybe i do". I only saw a sac with nothing in it. He said I have a tilted uterus at it may just be the angle but he thinks we are okay. He said let's do blood work and then another sono in a week. Obviously I was freaking out. My blood work came back god Beta 24,589. I just don't know what to think!!!!!! Wouldn't we have seen something if my beta was that high? Any reassurance? If not please Chat Icon. Chat Icon

UPDATE 8/19/08: Well it turns out I freaked for nothing! As soon as the wand went in for the transvaginal u/s it was there, right away. The heartbeat was flickering away! I almost fell off the table I was so relieved!!!! I also graduated and get to go back to my regular OB in 2 weeks. AND........two weeks from tonight I get to do my last shot in the butt! Looking forward to not having a sore hiney! Thanks for all of the reassurance girls!!!!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon

Awww don't worry, it's still early, I remember my first appts, the baby looked like a grain of rice. Hang in there, sounds like he gave you a real scare, he should have been more reassuring! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long)

Re: Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long)

I can't stand how some doctors are so insensitive sometimes!!! I'm not an expert by any stretch, but I would think with a beta that high, how could you NOT be pregnant, you know? My first ultrasound, it took him awhile to see anything.....please hang in there and keep us posted!!!

Re: Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long)

i had a sono at 5 weeks 5 days and i barely saw anything - and since i also have a slightly tilted uterus the dr really needed to "dig" to find something (it was an internal) sono

with beta #s that high i would not worry (i know, easier said than done). in a week or two you will see MUCH more!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long)

I swear these dr are so insensitive My RE did the same to me so much that i called him very upset he said the baby hadn't grown since last sono after a week of hell everything was fine and my Ds is 9 months old. If they don't know something for sure they shouldn't scare us like that!! keep positive I am sure with your beta that high yu wil have no problem!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Freaked out!!!!!! (a bit long)

my uterus is not tilted, and at 5.5 weeks I saw a small sac, and that was it. They even told me point blank (before the sono) that they expected to see nothing with the sono and don't get freaked out if there's nothing there.

At this point, I think your beta #'s are all that count... as long as they're high, your little bean is sprouting!

so sorry you were freaked out by your Dr... he should have known better and told you that it is common to see nothing at this early time Chat Icon

That's great. Thank you for posting this b/c I had the same experience just yesterday and have been anxious and hysterical since. I went for my 6 week, and nothing but an empty sac. The doctor is having me go back next week, thinking i o'd later than I think, making me less than 6 weeks. The panic and anxiety is making me sick. Your story makes me feel better.
