only wanted north shore and something close to huntington. narrowed the search to northport and bought in fort salonga (northport). the big attraction to FS was the privacy and lot size.

I wanted a town (love huntington but it was just too far north for us), love the south shore and wanted great schools. We ended up in Sayville and we couldn't be happier!!!!

Re: Picking the area that you're living

It was the first and only house we looked at in the area and fell in love with it. We had been only looking in the Merrick area and one day I decided to expand my search. I found this house, we came to see it and the rest is history. We are further east than we wanted to be, but we really like it here (Bethpage) despite our commutes.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We wanted to live close to our families and our jobs. The town we chose is 10-15 mins from our families and 5 mins from my job. We hate commuting!

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We moved here from Boston and were looking for anyplace withing 20 - 30 minutes of where I'd be working. DH would be working from a home office so location was less important for him. Fortunately we found a nice place less than 10 minutes from my office.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

It happened by chance. We were looking to buy a bigger house in the same area as our townhouse. My DH got a job in our new neighborhood & feel in love with the rural surroundings & the lake. We decided to take the leap & move about 30 minutes east of our old town.
My commute is longer, but DH changed the focus of his business to work in the Hamptons only instead of Nassau and things have worked out better than we could have imagined.
We love the area, the people, the parks.

We both Work together so we wanted an easy commute.

So we only looked close to the office
Our commute is about 3 minutes everyday

We wanted to move to S. Huntington because we loved everything about the area. The Village, it's close to the parkways, love the neighborhood (It's so quite you can hear a pin drop at night).

I loved that the houses were all different and had it's own personality. Your not on top of eachother either.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We only rent now but we are in the town I grew up in, Ronkonkoma. I was familiar with it and it's in the middle of our jobs. We each have a 1/2 commute. But it's close to the LIE.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We wanted to be close to family (within 15 minutes) & wanted to be on the south shore....Needed to be close to all major parkways since DH commutes to NYC. I also didn't want to add onto my commute (currently 3 miles).

We searched the surrounding areas for 2 years until we found our house. We could not be happier with the area.

We are not having kids, so we didn't care about school district.

We wanted rural and private, preferably north shore to be close to our jobs. So we're north shore, eastern LI.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We picked based on proximity to work(wanted a central location), closeness to shopping centers, major highways, school district, and rating of neighborhood.

(i'm not in NY, so the things that are close to you guys like train, highways, supermarkets can be a trip here)

Re: Picking the area that you're living

We had to be in NY since DH is in the FDNY. We limited it down to Westchester and Rockland based on both of our commutes and then further limited it to Rockland based on price vs commute time (and the fact it was where DH is from and we have more family and friends here).

We then looked at towns with train stations and their school districts and limited it down to 2 towns and went from there.

We needed/wanted:
*within 1hr-1.5hr commute to major airports & NYC
*at least .5 acre or more
*top rated SD (more from a resale point of view b/c we didn't know if we'd be making it our "long term" home or moving.)
*North Shore (we LOVED Huntington Village and the surrounding communities. Plus my family is from the area.)

Re: Picking the area that you're living

School District
Easy commute to both or jobs
Close to NYC (w/in 30 minutes) either by car or train
The community itself. We love the area of NJ that we live in.

We just moved to Holbrook. Where we lived had to be on the ronkakoma line for DH who works in the city, great schools, close to major roads (LIE and Surnrise) and low taxes and more affordable homees.

Re: Picking the area that you're living

we didnt want to move to far from our home town b/c DH business was there. The SD was important and property size. We looked for a LONG time and saw many houses before we bought ours. our criteria changed throughout our search.
