JPMorgan Chase Accidentally Breaks Into Your House And Steals Everything You Own
Bobo and Joy Dickson bought a house had been headed for foreclosure, but JPMorgan Chase apparently didn't get the message that the former owners had moved out and the new owners were in residence. So, naturally, they hired a firm to drill the Dickson's locks and take everything they owned, including their food. Now JPMorgan Chase is "taking it seriously."

Re: JPMorgan Chase Accidentally Breaks Into Your House And Steals Everything You Own
I would sue them and they would lose their shirt AND underwear.
Unbelievable! They should at least verify they have the correct information because breaking into someone's home.
And what about the 24 hours court order?
I hope it comes as a lesson to other lenders.

Re: JPMorgan Chase Accidentally Breaks Into Your House And Steals Everything You Own
Now I know that I am going to take heat for this post but, so be it....
Everyone wants to sue, sue, sue their pants off!!!!!!
Yes, they should be compensated for the trouble this has caused, but how much, 500.00, 5,000.00, 50,000.00, 500,000.00 or 5,000,000.00.
Lets all think of the cost involved to buy our home and how if I don't clear the sidewalk in front of my home and a Moron falls it's my fault, why I have been called to jury duty and the number of civil suits are crippling the justice system. Let me be a juror and they get the cost of the locks, their stuff back and 500.00 for the trouble.

Sorry for the rant

I think you are married and have a child, right?
What about your DC's 1st baby photos, souvenirs, wedding pics, your souvenirs as a kid, late grandma's china cabinet that she gave you so it stays in the family, etc...? You get the idea.
It's not just about $$. What about the time and expense to go shopping again?
I am not for ridiculous lawsuit but man, this is a HUGE invasion of privacy and taking what does not belong to you and sometimes it all cannot be replaced. And why? Not because of an Act of God (hurrican, tornado, etc..) Because someone did not check who was living in the house.

I am not one to sue but this would make me want to get every single penny I have put into and bought for the house. Then make them go on national TV and apologize for what they did. But it is nice that people want to help them out.

Oh man... we bought a foreclosure so this scares me! And we haven't received our deed yet.
I would definitely sue if they didn't offer to give me what I feel we would deserve for what they did.

They removed EVERYTHING from their home (all personal possessions, furniture, even their food) and gave it all to local thirft stores and apparently they are unable to locate where those items are.
here is the article
Bobo and Joy Dickson bought a house had been headed for foreclosure, but JPMorgan Chase apparently didn't get the message that the former owners had moved out and the new owners were in residence. So, naturally, they hired a firm to drill the Dickson's locks and take everything they owned, including their food. Now JPMorgan Chase is "taking it seriously."
"We take this very seriously, and we are working with EMC [a mortgage company JPMorgan Chase owns] and the family's attorney to make this right," said Tom Kelly, a JPMorgan spokesman.
After the Dickson's bought the house back in May, the foreclosure proceedings were supposed to have been stopped. They weren't. That's when the former owner's mortgage company (owned by JPMorgan Chase) hired "Field Asset Services Inc." to drill the locks and "empty the house," according to the Austin American-Statesmen. Field Asset Services claims that the Dickson's possessions were given to area thrift stores, but they have been unable to locate them.
Ordinarily, when personal possessions are left in a foreclosed home a court order is needed to remove the items and the owners are given the opportunity to reclaim them within 24 hours. JPMorgan Chase says its not sure if there was a court order in this case.
Elizabeth Bradburn, the Dicksons' real estate agent, is organizing an effort to collect donations for the family. She said gift cards to furniture and household goods stores are preferred and may be sent to the Dicksons' business address: 9800 N. Lamar Blvd.,
No. 315, Austin TX 78753.
"It's been awesome to see people mobilize and want to help out," Hance [Dicksons' attorney] said. "The Dicksons are, of course, very grateful and touched by the outpouring of support from the community."

Ok, I read it now but my opinion didn't change much, they should be reimbursed to replace what they lost, tv's, fridge, clothes,...... and to reprint their pics. I have a backup of everything online..........

But what if they took their computer, back up drives and everything... no pics! That would be devastating. And what about all the time they had to go with no appliances, clothes, etc...
I'm sorry but they need to be compensated tremendously for this.
ETA: And now i'm really thinking about everything that is lost forever... wedding gown, old baby photo albums, jewelry, files with bills, receipts, etc... i can't imagine what they are going through.

Everything cannot be stored online. Lots of items with sentimental value cannot be replaced.

You can add all official papers (marriage licence, birth certificate, etc..). Takes time to redo everything too. How do you just give $500 to go through all of this. Calling CC companies in case get a copy of their personal info. SS card to replace. And that's the tip of the iceberg.

I think people in general would feel very different if it happened to them as compared to sitting on the outside reading about it.
Time is money and to say somebody should be "awared $500 for their trouble" is just a little ridiculous in the grand scheme of things.
One of my greatest fears is to have a fire of some sort destroy everything in my house. Yes things are replaceable and that is what we have insurance for.
But to have the same thing happen solely due to a bank's pure negligence, would take such a huge emotional toll in addition to the material things that were lost.
It's nice to see the neighborhood taking up collections & donations for the family. Good to see a community helping out.

Marriage license and birth certifcates should be in safe deposit box, all pics should be online. receipts cannot be replaced, momentos cannot be replaced.... so what is the number, what dollar amount replaces the non-replaceable?????? Does a baby blanket cost 5,000.00, no and it shouldn't, when there is no way to replace an item and it is sentimental, you want to replace it with cash????
What kind of crap is that???????
its irreplaceable, 5 million your honor....

, all pics should be online. ...
I was married over 10 years ago.
Didn't have a digital camera back then.
How do I get THOSE pics online?
How about my baby pics, my husband's?
Trust me, I am the "world rolls off my back" kinda girl, but this was utterly negligent.
It is impossible to put a price on those memories, but your $500 is a slap in the face.

Give me a break. Like everyone is going to do that? Yeah right. What about all the older people who still use good old 35mm. I know plenty of those people. My parents have old films of all of us that are stored on VHS now - oh wait, can they be replaced too?
They should definitely be compensated for this, and a lot more than $500.

you are perhaps forgetting that there is a part of the damages figures that allows for PUNISHMENT of the wrong doer.
THAT is where those astronomical figures come in. to make a company FEEL it where it hurts so they get their sh1t together and don't go barging into people homes with drill bits and dump trucks.
and while I am no fan of frivolous lawsuits, and I am FULLY aware of what they do to both the judicial AND insurance systems, this is an exception.
JPMorgan should be made to FEEL what they have done. HOW VILE. HOW DIGUSTING.
if these people so happen to be the beneficiaries, good for them.
JP morgans higher ups wipe their assses with $500 checks. ridiculous.

I am glad you have all your stuff well organized.
Those people moved in MAY!!!!
A lot of solutions you are offering to protect yourself are not free.
- safety box (again, would have had to be in the bank (NOT FREE!!!) otherwise they took everything from their house) - Online storage. Would require a scanner to scan old pics
So that's it... there is no compensation for the trouble those people have to go through.
Do you realize the number of man hours this is going to take them? The trouble of this because someone made a mistake. Ooops Sorry!
How would you feel if you open you door one day and everything is gone? Maybe you don't care. Maybe your wife does, your kid does. It's not just about replacing the latest WII game. It's about memories GONE. Why shouldn't they be compensated? They did not ask anything. They bought a freaking house and someone forget to tell someone. In the end, THEY are paying the price.
