My DH and I love to get away without the kids. Every marriage can use it. Hell, we are now at the point where we have alot of alone time again and I love it. I always tried to remember that not only am I a mother, but a chic and wife too!!

I haven't done it yet, and not sure if I am 100% ready but it WILL happen.
DH and I are talking about going to Vegas & CA next year for our 10 Year anniversary! Yes, it will be very hard to leave DS behind (and since we are talking about TTC #2 soon, it will be hard to leave that baby as well) but, it needs to be done! Ten Years is awesome and DH and I will probably look forward to it.

I would give my left arm to be able to go away with DH, without Alex. We have no one to watch her overnight, so we haven't been able to. But concededly, I DO enjoy the times I travel without them. It gives me a nice break to refresh and rejuvenate.
Same here. We have no one who could watch her. I suppose we could pay one of our babysitters, but I don't think either of us would be comfortable with that. Plus  I may try to get away on my own without DH & DD one of these days, but I don't see DH & I going anywhere alone for a very long time.

I can certainly understand it. I don't think that you are alone in wanting some alone time with DH----and I do think that alone time with DH makes for a good relationship with mommy and daddy. It is good that you recognize that you need it and since you are able to do it, that's good.
For me, what I want is more alone time just by myself. I have either DD or DH with me at ALL times, aside from work, when I'm around tons of other people's kids (I'm a teacher).
I wouldn't mind having an afternoon to shop, lay around the house and read books, go for a mani/pedi and not have DD or DH around at all, but I'll probably not get that for years to come since DH doesn't drive.

I agree. DS is 3 months old so not right now, but in the future we will definitely be going to Europe without him. We loved vacationing before he was born so we don't plan on stopping. Eventually we hope to bring him with us...open his eyes to new cultures, foods, experiences, etc.

Well I think I am in a different situation from you, I work FT so I get the "break" I need everyday.
So if and when we go on vacation I would want Ds with us, I would miss him too much and would enjoy myself more if he was with us.
Maybe int he future I will change my mind, but I feel like time goes by too fast, and before you know it, they are all grown up and will not want to always be around their parents.

Ale is a great traveller but I think it would be nice to have a weekend without her, just to come and go as we please.
But that ain't happening so I am glad she travels well.

Right now I BF DS so there is no chance to get even a night away. DS and I are planning to take at least one or two nights a month though to go out just the two of us.
I can't wait for two things..
A girls night out with drinks and a weekend away with just my DH. I think I'd wait on a long vacation until DS is a bit older, but I would love a weekend just with DH.

TOTALLY looking forward to it!!!! I am visiting 'home'-NY next month with my DH for 6 days and my mom will come to babysit! I am SOOO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT!!! I love my DD more then life itself.. but sometimes Mama needs a break!!!!!

I think it depends on when you ask people. I went on a business trip in May and before I left I was totally looking forward to the time away. I guess I got my fix of time away because now I just want to be with him and we are taking a trip with him soon and I am excited about that.

I love my kids more than anything...but DH and I have never been away without them, and at this point...I'd give my right arm. We need it desperately. I'm hoping once #3 is born we can break away...
I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it!!!

I would LOVE a vacation with out my kids! but that won't happen for another couple of years, I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them till they are older like 3 and 6 years old, I would worry to much about them at the age they are now.

just got back from a 2 week vacation w/o DS
we missed him but we needed time alone to recharge and make memories
my inlaws took him everywhere so in a sense he had a vacation tooo
OMG!! Good for you, just the thought of being away from my kids for that long makes me sick to my stomach
