Absolutely!!! I can't wait to go on our anniversary trip without my little princess.

I don't have to worry about her she'll be well taken care of by both my parents and my in-laws.

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

DH and I just got back from a 4 nights/5 day vacation in Aruba. While we did miss DD, we had a great time without her. My parents watched her and we knew she was in good hands. We didnt worry one bit!

ETA - I have been comfortable going away without her from the beginning. She spent the weekend at my parents when she was 3 weeks old, a week when I was away on business when she was 12 weeks old and countless weekend nights since then.

People are definitely different. I have a friend whose daughter is almost 3 years old and won't leave her for more than 4 hours. EVER.....While she may think it's nuts that I go away without her and have no problem dropping her off at my parents for a weekend getaway, I think she's nuts for always being by DD's side.

I would give my left arm to be able to go away with DH, without Alex. We have no one to watch her overnight, so we haven't been able to. But concededly, I DO enjoy the times I travel without them. It gives me a nice break to refresh and rejuvenate.

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

DH and I dont like leaving DD to go to work all day. So we are not at a point where we are ready to go on a vacation w/o her.

And it has nothing to do with a concern about her not being cared for. She is with MIL all day while we work and there is no concern there.

But she is only 1 and although we miss our alone time together, we also miss the hours we are w/o her during the week.

I am sure when she gets a little older, we will be ready. But for right now, any vacation I want to enjoy with my little princess right by my side.Chat Icon

I would LOVE to take a vacation without the kids, but since I'm still EBFing DD we won't be able to do it for a while. I love my kids, but a vacation with them is just not very relaxing. IMO there's nothing wrong with wanting some time away.

Not a taboo topic at all. If I had a vacation coming up, I would SOOO look forward to it without my son. Nothing wrong with that. My and my dh need some time alone and God knows when baby #2 comes we will have no time at all.

I went away with my dh when my son was a year old for a week long cruise. We had the best time.

I don't think it's selfish at all. I think it's healthy for the relationship. DH and I are talking about going away for our anniversary in November. We would go without DS. Although I'm sure we'd miss him, I would not feel guilty.

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

Well...

My DH surprise me with a trip to Jamaica while I was on maternity leave..even though I was upset when he did it..I was crying hysterical when I left...it was the best thing for me!!!

I was on no sleep, I was going back to work in 2 weeks and DH and I were at each others throat...

I came back refreshed!!! And returning to work was not bad for me.

Did I miss my son...YES...would I do it again YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the time away...

ETA...DS was with my mom so I knew he was taken care of...I also called everyday and spoke to him...not much of a conversation since he was 12 weeks old...but it was great for me Chat Icon

I know how u feel. I am trying to leave DS with my mom overnight for one day this week so DH and I could have some quality time. I would totally love to go away with DH without DS but I am the one who wants that and DH is the one who doesnt really want to leave DS anywhere overnight.

I don't have any problem leaving DD for vacation! My parents love to have her, and DH and I need some time to ourselves! Go and enjoy!

Totally agree. My mom jumps at any chance she can to have DS for an overnighter... and she already has him every weekday for 9-10 hours while we are at work!! I have absolutely no problem going away and leaving him with her to watch. I love getting "couple" time.

When Logan was about 10 months we went away for a week without him.

I work full-time and I'm a mom full-time - I need a break from both.

DH and I agreed that with our 4 weeks of vacation we would do 2 as a family and 2 alone.

At this point, I am not ready to leave DD for an extended period of time. Over night is okay but anything more I just can't seem to entertain right now.

I don't think anything is wrong with vacationing without your child(ren) though.

I love my kids, but I don't feel the need to be with them 24 hours a day.

We haven't done a real vacation without them yet, so we'll see how I feel then.

I echo both of these sentiments. We have done a bunch of overnights and in October spent 2 nights in Chicago. I miss her, but I need it.

My dad is actually taking her Mon-Wed of next week while he is off, so while it's not a vacay for us, we will be Bella-less (which will be weird)

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

When we went to marriage counseling before we got married... I was told by my pastor to always plan at least 2 vacations a year...one with the children and one without...he said its very important for the relationship...he also said that the 1st year with a child is the hardest on the marriage...so taking time to be with your spouse alone is that much more important during that year.

Girl - YES. we are going away next weekend, 2 nights at the beach and I am SO looking forward to it. I'll miss him, but I know he's in good hands and my DH and I really need the getaway. in fact, it's in Ryan's best interest that we go ;)

Same here. I would leave him for a day or 2 to go to the hamptons for some place close but I would never leave him for a week or go someplace far.

We went to CT for our anniversary as a weekend getaway. I couldnt book a "real vacation" too far from DS.

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

Honestly... I cannot imagine leaving DD even overnight, nevermind for a vacation.... I really don't have anyone to leave her with anyway... his parents...um, they can't even watch her for more than 2 hours without complaining that she's so "active"... my sister...I'd feel bad to leave her by herself with her for an extended period of time... and my bil and sil have a new baby so there's no way we would burden them... both of my parents are deceased...so unless I could trust that DD would be 100% okay, we won't be going anywhere.

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

we're blessed to have four extremely capable parents that can babysit for us, on a dime. My parents are across the street, and her parents are 10 mins away.

We haven't gone away overnight yet, but have gone on several "dates", and are planning a couple of overnight things next year, and a vacation to Vegas in 2010.

Have no opposition to doing things without the kids - we believe it's healthy to have a balance between family time and couple time.

no way, we LOVE to vacation WITH the kids, a night out without them? ABSOLUTELY, but I have no interest in leaving them for vacation, once they grow up my hubby and I will have plenty of time by ourselves, for now we LOVE being with them and we realize the time in them WANTING to be with us is limited (usually only until age 8 or 9). But I totally respect everyone's opinion, I just tend to be very anxious leaving my children wlth anyone for extended periods of time, I think it would put a damper on my trip if we were without them.Chat Icon

Re: Totally taboo topic....does anyone look forward to going on vacation WITHOUT their DC?

We went to Aruba last year without DS. He was 19 months. He stayed with my IL's. I wasn't nervous about leaving him b/c he was in good hands. I didn't feel guilty either. We thought about going someplace with him but it wouldn't be much of a vacation. The same as usual but a different location. So, we went without him. I missed him but we had a great time and I was ready to come home when it was over. DH needed that time alone.

In 20 years, he will never remember that we left him to go on vacation.

This year, we are debating what we should do. He's older and can do more but I don't know. We might try a short weekend with DS first.

Are you kidding? How is this taboo?

While i love DD, I love my DH too. And nothing my DD coudl do would ever change how I feel about her, DH and I need to work on our marriage. And a few nights away from her definitely help!!!
