Something Fishy at The Car Dealership

My sister went to Atlantic Honda today. She was going to trade in her car (02 Eclipse Spyder) and the salesman told her that he ran a carfax and the odometer that currently says 51k had been rolled back and there was really 120k miles on her car and that he could only give her $4,900 for the car. He refused to give her a copy of the report. So she went home, amazingly found her carfax report from when she bought it in 2004, actually two, one she had ran, one the dealer had ran, no odometer rollback! So NOW she just ran a NEW carfax of her own, NOTHING!

The dealer was trying to scam her so he could give her less for her trade in!!

Disgusting!! I told her to call the BBB on them!

wow - what a moron. like she wasn't going to go home and run it herself. he acts like running a carfax report is something only HE can do. she should report him to BBB and go to another dealership to give someone HONEST her hard earned money.

Ummm....I think they have to give you a copy of that report don't they? I know when you are buying a car they have to give you a copy.

Re: Something Fishy at The Car Dealership

She called him like 20 minutes ago and got him on the phone and he says "I'm just running out the door..uh um we run more than one with different companies, call me tomorrow" rightttt

Oddly enough, when you actually run the carfax, it takes you to a link where you can find cars similar to what you just ran the carfax for, that have been listed by dealers..her car with the same exact vin number was listed by Atlantic TODAY. There was no price indicated though. Idiots.

Not to mention, Smithtown Mitsubishi ran a carfax when she was going to trade in her car there a couple of months ago and there were no problems indicated.

It's a GT with 50k. The mitsu dealer was going to give her 8k for it, but she decided on another car. I told her to just try to sell it outright.

I just can't believe how scummy that place is. A girl I work with had an issue with them also, but I don't remember specifically what it was.

well in that case, here is the *real* trade in value:

Condition

Excellent
$9,125

Good
$8,530

Fair
$7,485

there are so many other dealers on LI, why go there?

Well since she had no idea they were scumbags, she didn't know NOT to go there.
