My parents are defintely modern.
mine too!
reading Red's post (sound of music) made me realize that i didn't really have a traditional upbringing. (though, i knew this)... i sometimes feel like my parents treated me more like iw as their friend than their child.
but, i love the job they did, so i'm okay with that. i just feel weird when i dont know alot of 'traditional' things that other people do

Re: What were your parents like?
Dad - Modern as a Dad could be with 3 daughters.
Mom - modern but stay at home mom, worked p/t while we were in school.
Both were clear that they were the parent - not our friends, pretty strict rules (not that we paid much attention), chores, etc.

Re: What were your parents like?
i guess i should add...
my parents were definitely strict when they needed to be- and at those times, i knew they were *not* my friends But, my mom says i never really gave them much of a reason to be strict.
my brother and sister, on the other hand.....

Re: What were your parents like?
Totally modern. There were never any punishments in my house, only discussions, there were always "learning experiences" from stuff. My mom was the president of a women's group and taught my sister and I to take pride in being a strong woman, my dad was a total sensitive mushy man. They meditated and did yoga and tried new things all the time. I am so grateful for my parents and the way they brough me up!

Re: What were your parents like?
Strict, old-fashioned, and traditional - they were first generation immigrants.
My mom has become alot more modern though. My Dad...still thinks he's living in DR!
