I felt the same way. My plan was to breastfeed in the hospital and switch to exclusive pumping once I got home. Well, DS will be 2 weeks tomorrow and I am still breastfeeding. I totally changed my mond about it. it is a great bonding experience with DS and I really enjoy it - although sometimes I feel like I am a slave to feeding him. Give it a shot, you might enjoy it too.

I agree with Stephanie. Before having DD- I KNEW I wanted to BF, but had the same reservations about what it would feel like. My breasts had always played a major part in my and DH's sex life- and I worried that it might be/feel weird.

This is how I am feeling also, I KNOW I want to breastfeed but am unsure of how it will affect our sex life; I love breast play and can "O" just from that. For some reason the drive to BF is so strong that I am more willing to give up the sexual aspect of my breasts than the nuturing aspect. Although I am hoping I can seperate the two.

All I can do is wait an see what happens once the baby is born.

I just want to say, that YES, it was wierd to think about before dd was born, however, once she was born, it came TOTALLY naturally.....it is a WONDERFUL bonding experience. I would recommend at least trying it and see how you feel. I BF my dd for 3 months but also supplemented with formula. My next baby, I plan to try to BF for at least 6 months Chat Icon

ITA with everything you said! i felt so weird too! i wound up loving it and BF'd for 9 months. very surprising to me.

I agree! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm the opposite I guess. I can't imagine not BFing and was so sad when things didn't work out well with DD and I ended up basically pumping for 7 months.
I wasn't a natural at it and it was hard and definitely felt strange at times but the times my DD was latched on were precious times that I will always cherish.
I hope things work out better for this baby and BFing goes well.

It did before I tried it. Once I tried it everything was fine and I ended up bfing for a year.

ETA: I agree it is actually sooooooooo much easier than bottles. Especially in the middle of the night!

I have thought about it and it is kind of weird, but I am going to try. My sister did not and my friend who is due in January is definitely not going to because she is afraid of what it will do to her boobs aesthetically.

Unfortunately for your friend, your boobs still do change when you are pregnant. Even if you formula feed, you have to go through your milk coming in, and that is something that changes your boobs FOREVER!!! lol

Mine either!!

I think it has to do more with genetics than breastfeeding. I've breastfed my son for 20 months and mine are still perky. But, most women will notice a change simply from being pregnant whether or not they breastfeed.

thanks julz for posting this & btw, a belated congrats to u, your little one is just so adorable! your original plan is what i was planning on doing, pumping once i get home & maybe supplementing with formula. but now i really think i want to try and give the bf a shot instead of just pumping. i just have fears of it hurting and not enjoying it, and want to pump too so dh can give the baby a bottle too and for me to be able to go out without having to worry about having to bf while i am someplace and dont feel comfortable!

Maybe I'm a sick chick- but I never gave up that aspect of sex even when I was fully into BFing. It was still just as enjoyable. I was totally able to mentally separate the two. Having these full breasts (I had been a small B before DD) definitely helped me feel more attractive. Yes- the leaking was offputting sometimes- so I just made sure to pump right before we planned to "do it".

I do it a little bit so that he gets some of the benefit, but it is weird. I would never do it outside of the house, I am way too uncomfortable with that.
