Help - My Baby has his days and nights confused!
He is up from the 12 midnight feeding to 7:00 a.m. -- I mean wide awake and doesn't fall asleep after those feedings.
The Dr. office suggest that I keep him up during the day, but I CAN'T! He sleeps thru feedings and hasn't been finishing them. He could sleep all day if he could. I try waking him he just sleeps thru any tickling, movement that I do.
He's 6 weeks old. His timing just changed a few days ago (about a week ago).
What can I do to keep him up during the day, suggestions please.....

I honestly don't think there's much you can do to keep him up all day...you would probably have one big cranky baby on your hands...lol.

Daytime: Bright light, sing songs, show him toys. Go outside when this heat breaks.
When DD used to fall asleep during feedings I would undress her, tickle her feet or chin, make silly noises (that always made her look annoyed), I even had to rub her down with a cool washcloth to keep her up.
At night, keep it quiet and dim, no games, I used to hum instead of sing and just rock her in the dark. It only took a few days for us to turn it around this way.
 I know it's not easy but will get better very soon.

really? I thought if I did (like the Dr. said) he would be tired from being up and would sleep at night.

This wasn't a big issue for me, but what I tried to do was make sure I took DD out so she was in sunlight during the day - and she was born in January so she's not afraid of the cold!
I never let her sleep through a feeding - always woke her up after 3 hours during the day.
At night time don't turn lights on when you feed him, keep your voice low or don't speak at all so he can understand that it's sleepy time. I stopped changing DD at night if it was just a wet diaper (as opposed to a poopie diaper) because it woke her up too much.

really? I thought if I did (like the Dr. said) he would be tired from being up and would sleep at night.
Its very very hard to but a over-tired baby to sleep....

Thanks, I'll try these but for some reason he's always asleep.
and around 5:00 p.m. he gets a burst of energy and stays up and naps on an off until the Midnight feeding.

I even tried a pacifier, but it falls out - any suggestions on how to keep it in?
Also, do you leave a small light on in the babys room, or does your baby sleep in the complete dark?
I've notice when I think he fell asleep, I would lay him down in his crib but would wake and scream! Should I countine to put him back in his crib, or try the pack-n-play (or someother place)?

Since DD has been home, we have been outside everyday,except these past 2 days. During the day, we just do our normal routine with DS. TV is on, the noice level is normal, lights are on, sunlight comes through the windows..We dont whisper or tip toe around. Normally she wakes for her feedings, but if she doesn't I wake her. When she is up, I talk to her, touch her, tickle her..but I don;t go out of my way to wake her when she is sleeping. When I see she is tired, I let her sleep. I have noticed with my DD, by letting her sleep when she wants..she sleeps better at night.

I'd jut try to get the entertainment going before he falls asleep.
Another thing I did was dance, (and not slow dance) with DD in my arms. This actually got her first giggle going. It was a good way for me to wake us both up.

My SIL did ice on the feet when her DS fell asleep when eating

Pacifier tip- after each bottle, give him the pacifier. wiggle it around until he starts to get some solid suction. Then try to pull it out a bit. He will fight to keep it in, and get the rythym right. This worked for Max Power- and consequently the pacifier is what puts him to sleep at night.
ETA- lights off, door open.
Keep up with the crib thing- Max hated it at first too. Once you get the pacifier thing going it will be easier. If he wakes up in the crib, give him the pacifier and stand there with your hand on his belly shushing him. That may work. It worked for me. Once he hit 10 weeks, he was sleeping through the night, and going to bed while awake (but sleepy).
Also- a bath seems to tire him out- try doing bathtime at night.

Does he have reflux? Maybe that's the problem with laying flat?
My DS slept in his swing until recently (which is a whole sep problem).
