Re: The National Guard...

The only thing I know is that it is State based. So if there is a hurricane etc in the state you are in, the National Guard is called to help out first.

Re: The National Guard...

I think there are different branches (Army National Guard, Air National Guard).

DH's Cousin is in the Army Nat Guard and he went to Iraq and also is called to a lot of things stateside (for example he had to go when there was a power outage somewhere upstate).

DH's Uncle is in the Air Nat Guard as his full time job and he was deployed to Africa.

I am just telling you this because I want you to know that in addition to being called to things "stateside" that they can be deployed.

My DH just signed with the Marine Reserves, so trust me, I can totally relate to what you're going through.

Re: The National Guard...

Thank you al!! He is 'downplaying' it as much as he can but I know better. I did want to hear from others who may know more about it. We moved out of NY 2 yrs ago and I am barely used to it here let alone him going away for 2 mo. of boot camp and living on pins and needles wondering if he is going to get deployed.

Re: The National Guard...

the guard essentially helps out with things like natural disasters and the like. they used to basically always be called WITHIN the US ONLY....

now with the war in iraq, more and more are being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. With this conflict, I would tell him to not chance it, unless he really wants to go over there.

Re: The National Guard...

I am an Active Duty Marine. Let me know if you need any other information besides what is here. I looked into Army National Guard. I didn't want to be in the Army like my older sister so I went Marine Corps. Plus....someone up above had the plan for me to meet my DH here.
