Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

I didn't think Rocco was a very popular name when we named him - however there have been 2 roccos in jax that i've heard of, one at my ob/gyn and one at daycare - though i have yet to meet them.

i love the name and think it suits him well...so happy we didn't go with our original name choice. it wouldn't fit him at all now!

The name Grace has a very special meaning to me...

It was by God's Grace that I became pregnant, was able to carry my DD full term with out a heart problem presenting itself until the very end of my pregnancy. All of you have no idea how grateful I am that I was even able to have her.

When ever I went to my cardiologist's office I would see kids, teenagers, 20 somethings and 30 somethings in the waiting room. Almost all of them, with the same condition that I had, but their L-TGA was WAY worse than mine. The fact that I was able to live to 31 w/o a surgery (I had it when I was 31), get married, have a child, work, be self sufficient...I defied the odds. I KNOW it is through God's Grace that I was able to do all of these things, thus I named DD Grace. DH and I did not care that there would be 15 Grace's in her class, or play group. We knew that that name was special to us and we did not pick it b/c it was popular, KWIM?

ETA: If you love the name...go for it! Who cares???? My name is Dina and it was butchered all through my school years and into college. I HATED having an "original" name. My teachers would call me "Dinah, Dana, Diana, etc, etc." NEVER D I N A.

Plus, they NEVER said my name on romper room and magic garden. Chat Icon Plus, I could never get anything personalized like those fake license plates they put on your bicycle. After YEARS of therapy, I am slowly getting over it...

As a Grace mommy myself, that was such a touching story. We did not debate it at all even though I knew it had gotten popular over the years. I knew forever that would be my DD name since it is my Grandmother's. I can't think of better way to honor her. Plus, I felt the same way. I finally got married and got to have a DD- I knew that was God's grace as well.

Now her middle name makes her distinctive and I use it a lot together. I used my maiden name for her middle name and it makes her name rather famousChat Icon People comment on it all the time.

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

Ok, I will be the different one. I CAN say that I would be dissapointed to find out that her name became popular all of a sudden. We like the name because it was different (but not off-the-wall) and not too popular.
We didn't pick a name that was knowlingly "popular" for the reason that we liked the idea of her being set apart from others. I didn't want her being "the other one"

KWIM?

Jayden is pretty popular now a days. It wasn't my first choice, but it was the only name we agreed on. I don't regret it.

Same here. DD's middle name is DH's Grandmother name (DD's great grandma) and it is different. Chat Icon

There are sooooo many Joshuas. Doesn't bother me though, anytime I hear a parent call over their Josh, I always smile.

I don't care if its traditional, trendy, common....its so important for me to pick a name that I love because I feel like I say it 1000 times a day.

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

its actually funny because whenever people ask what DD's name is (usually older women) they say 'oh what a beautiful name, that's an old name, havent heard that in a long time' or something to that nature.

Meanwhile DD's name is on the top 10 list Chat Icon I knew her name was popular but I didnt care....its a name that i love and I feel it fits DD.

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

Oh yeah, I am not sure if Sabrina is considered super-popular. DH and I agreed on it. We both thought it was a pretty, classic named. Her middle name is my name so she is Sabrina Juliet. I am not sure how many of those ther will be. Even if there are other Sabrina's, we still love the name.

As far as having a name that isn't popular, I never went to school with another Juliet. My brother went to school with two girls named Juliet but I never did. I have started to hear it being used again but not a lot. I guess I just notice it when I do hear it because it is so rare.

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

I fell in love with the name Caden as soon as I heard it. When we found out we were having a girl we decided to keep the name, but change the spelling (Kaydyn). I love it so I would never have changed it, but every time I say her name people automatically assume it's a boy.

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

Another Matthew Mommy here...and no regrets. I always thought I cared about names being over popular and never really gravitated towards them but with my DS #2, I just wanted the name for him. Period. I can't explain but it just didn't matter to me how popular it is - look how many are on here alone - but if you like the name, you like it I could see if you thought it was not so popular and then were shocked at how many kids had the same name but going into it knowing it's popular, it doesn't matter. I mean, everywhere I go I hear a Matthew being called by name or on a list at any given kid's event but it doesn't bother me in the least.

I have an awesome personalized Buzz Lightyear jacket for him that someone who has a bigger Matthew gave me when her son outgrew it. It fits him now but if anyone has a Matthew who is younger than my son, let me know so I can have someone else to hand it down to someday.

Go with what you love!!!

I knew Katelyn was popular, but there are soooooo many different spellings of it.

Honestly, I love the name and have no problem if there are other girls in her class with the same name. I remember when I got to Jr. High School there was finally another "Jill" I was sooooooo excited!

Re: Moms with DC having "popular" names...

I tried to stay away from uber popular names. Llike I always loved Grace for a girl, but now there are so many that I wouldn't have named Steven Grace if he were a girl.

When I was in school it was Jennifer. There were four of them Chat Icon
