Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
My regular Gyno is a female. I have had a male gyno before, but I kind of prefer a woman. Now that I am pregnant, I found out that my female Gyno does not deliver, so for my pregnancy I will be seeing another Doctor in the practice who is a male. I am going to try him out, but if I don't feel comfortable with him, I will have to switch practices....
Any suggestions for a Female OBGYN in the Ronkonkoma/Hauppauge areas?

I've only had female.
My first OB/GYN was in Valley Stream.
But now, I use a midwife who is in Huntington.

Male - ALWAYS. I prefer NOT to have females. I do not think an OB/GYN needs to have the same parts as I do to know science.

I prefer a male doctor. I had a female doctor once and she was pretty rough. So, I'm sticking with the gender who don't have the same equipment as we do!

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I prefer whoever is best for my situation. My practice has both male and female, but one of the males is the high risk OB - he is awesome. As long as it's an understanding doctor it's fine. DH wanted me to go to a female after a bad experience with a male doctor. Originally when I changed practices I was seeing a woman, but she stopped taking my insurance and ceased practicing OB. So I called a friend who had a lot of trouble having her kids and she recommended one of the male doctors in the practice - I've had only great experiences and a male doctor will be delivering the baby.

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
All I am really looking for is someone I am confortable with. I have had a male doctor that I loved, but I left him because his office staff were very unprofessional & unorganized. Then I went to another male & I hated him. So I joined this new practice & I was really happy with my doctor, but now I find out she does not do OB. I have not met the male doctor yet, I guess I am just scared & nervous since this is my first pregnancy. I just want to be completely comfortable with whoever I end up with. I am just letting my nerves get to me....

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I go both ways
I have a male now and he's very gentle and very nice
I have had a female who was super but she moved to the city and she didn't deliver
I used a female last week when my doc was out sick and she was super nice but a little 'rough' when she went for a look.
Still ... in my opinion I wanted someone I liked and wasn't god awful painful. Seeing as I used my General Practice doc for my first few years as my ob/gyn not knowing I needed a different doc, what can i tell ya?
For me its all about feeling comfortable asking questions and if they have a good sense of what my needs are and how to respond to me.
Good luck

I prefer female. I believe a woman doctor better understands what a woman goes through, whether it is pregnancy, birth or just a yeast infection.

I agree. Although the specialist I saw was a male and I loved him. In general I prefer women.

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I had a female and she made me uncomfortable any time i asked a question. I was young when i had her, so im sure i asked questions that would raise an eyebrow, but her being an MD should have been more understanding.. she wasnt. so now i only see male doctors, they are much more gentile. IMO

I always had female Gynos but now have a male OB. I never thought I would but I really like my male OB. I think it depends more on personality of the Dr. not their sex.

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I was convinced I only wanted a female obgyn. I had always had female gyn's previously, but now I'm at a practice that has 2 males and 1 female, and I have to admit I prefer the males. The female doctor rushed me through my appointment and had a difficult time answering my questions about the reasons for some bloodwork I was having done. Go figure!

I'm the same way - I prefer one of the 3 male doctors over the 1 female in the practice I go to. I find her not to be as thorough.

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I have been to both and prefer woman. It was comforting to me while I was in labor and my Dr. was sharing her labor experiences with me and how she felt with each of her pg's.

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I've always had female. My mom and a few of my friends have always had males. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter, but just knowing my doctor (who I think has 3 kids of her own) has BTDT, kind of makes me feel really comfortable. She can relate...

Re: Do you prefer a Male or Female Doctor?
I prefer female.
To be fair, I have never gone to a male doctor so I don't know if I would feel uncomfortable but I think I will because I am pretty body self-conscious. Then again I don't feel completely ok with anyone looking.
