 Ladies with twins
How far along were you when you found out were you were having twins? DH and I have a good chance of having twins, but so far (at 17 weeks) the doctors have confirmed 1 baby. But, my MIL and many friends of the family have said that you can find out later if they are "hiding" behind one another. My MIL said that she didn't find out about DH and his sister until she was 5 months along. Of course, that was 28 years ago..but still.

 Re: Ladies with twins
My mom didn't find out until she was 20+ weeks but that was almost 40 years ago.
I don't think they can hide from the sonograms nowadays.

I found out I was having twins at 12 weeks. The 6 previous sonograms didnt see the other baby. It wasnt until the babies started moving around that they saw baby B.
Due to the position of the babies it just couldnt see them on a vaginal sono...I went for a 12 week sono and the doctor was pointing out the heartbeat and limbs etc..just as he was about to turn off the machine the nurse and I saw something move in the opposite direction of the way the baby was moving. He tried looking better but still wasnt really seeing anything. He switched to the abdominal sonogram and sure enough 2 babies..
But I would say that at 17 weeks there is only one in there...unless you havent had a sonogram since the very beginning.

 Re: Ladies with twins
You would know by 17 weeks.
I looked about 18 months preggo by then
We pretty much knew when the doc gave me my beta score at 17DPO.
Nrthshgrl (previous poster) was on the other line when I got the #, she googled it and it fell within the range of multiples
Definitely confirmed by sono shortly thereafter. My DC's were located on the right and left of my uterus the entire pregnancy so both could be seen by the front.
Best to ask this on the multiples board

 Re: Ladies with twins
I knew at my first sonogram - although my doctor *almost* missed it - he caught the second blip as he was taking out the *wand*.
I think you would know by now, although stranger things have happened!

 Re: Ladies with twins
My mom didn't know she was having twins until I was born...and they said WAIT...there's another one But that was 34 years ago and they didn't do sonograms unless they thought something was wrong. She only gained 13 lbs with both of us

 Re: Ladies with twins
Ok thanks girls! I know it's only 1, but my MIL is insisting that there still could be 2 because she had 2 and didn't find out until 5 months. I've told her that technology has changed, but she dosent believe it.

there are several sets of twins on both my parents sides of the family so i guess I have a pretty good shot as well. Didn't happen the 1st time around though.
But, doesnt twins skip a generation (you mentioned your MIL had twins)? Or is that an old wives tale?

Old wives tale. People think that is the case when a twin male has a baby girl and that baby girl goes on to have a twin. The male twin would not cause his wife to have twins, he would pass it to his off spring.
Also you could not be pregnant with twins becuase your MIL was, someone on your side would have to pass it to you, it is the propensity to release two eggs and your MIL being a twin has nothing to do with it.
