diy- Wood floors
My husband and I are going to attempt to install hardwood floors in our dining room and den. Can you suggest a good place to buy the floors from and for good prices?
Also if you have install the floors yourself, any tips/advice?
TIA.

Lumber Liquadators
Sorry, we didn't install our own, so I don't have any advice to offer. I know some girls on here did though. GL!

Re: diy- Wood floors
DH did the wood floors himself. we got the wood (prefinished) from the home depot (it was on sale for $2.99 psf).
it was easy to install but labor intensive. It took DH about three days to do a 500 sq. ft. space. he has an air compressor, he rented the nail gun from HD as well.
pics in album. we probably saved at least $2k by doing it ourselves -

Re: diy- Wood floors
Hi Lisa! I recently had some hardwood floors installed in my country house and my husband and I, we did all the setup ourselves. Happily, we have received help from the store we bought the floors, as the prices were very low and they provided us with all the necessary installation kits and diy guidelines. Here is the place we bought our flooring from: http://www.breaklinks.com/detail/link-1664.html . Good luck with your project!

My DH installed hardwood in our guest room & we sanded & finished it ourselves. We love the way it came out.

Re: diy- Wood floors
ifloors.com is ALOT cheaper than HD.My mom just ordered Bruce Wood Flooring for her dressing area and saved a ton of money through ifloors.com compared to what she spent on the same flooring for her diningroom and formal livingroom 2 years ago at HD. We actually ordered ours through a lumber yard because we got unfinished oak flooring.

Re: diy- Wood floors
My DH installed Brazilan Cherry wood floors in our old house. They were beautiful. We lucked out and got them for $4.99 sq/ft which was a great price at Home Depot Expo, plus they were instock. They were also pre-finished. He rented the nail gun from HD and it took him and his dad 2 full days to do our living and diningroom (don't remember the square footage). It does take some thought to laying it because you want to pay attention to the patten. GL

Re: diy- Wood floors
we installed hw in our kitchen (about 150 sq. ft). it was plain red oak that the previous owners left. We rented the nail gun from home depot. It was a long process, took an entire weekend. We then sanded and finished it. (we also refinished the rest of the hardwood in the rest of the house.
