Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
well I can't really say b/c I have never lived anywhere else in the US.
IMO - only if you have lived somewhere else can you make a really fair comparison.

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
nope. I love nyc. we're in queens.
In the summertime, we bring my son to such unique events, he's getting exposed to so much... There's always something interesting to do, interesting people to see and meet...
Parents have a house out east, so we can escape to the beach when we want... BEAUTIFUL BEACHES...
I honestly do NOT want to live anywhere else. Sure we might have a little more $, but in the long run it wouldn't make us happy... what we have here, I absolutely love.

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
I do!!
I was just talking to someone about this last night. The pace and commuting are exhausting. The sheer volume of people is overwhelmeing. Yes, NYC has a lot to offer but I am so done by Friday I can't usually bear the thought of spending free time in Manhattan.

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
my biggest pro is the closeness to family. i don't want to raise my kids in an area where they cannot see their grandparents often. i want them to have that closeness. a pro for me is the weather...i love having the seasons and could never move to the south where i didn't have a distinct winter with snow, etc.
sometimes i wish we could move to princeton where i grew up, or ct where i went to high school, but both are equally expensive. i've also lived in two areas upstate; in the mid-hudson valley and in ithaca. both were far from a major city, and too rural for me. there just wasn't as much going on. and there was a LOT more snow!
i also lived in DC, which i liked at the time (a bit warmer, slightly less busy than NYC in my opinion...), but i really prefer living in a suburb but close to the city. DC was also a bit too political for me (ironic since i was working in the wihte house at the time).
biggest cons for me about LI are taxes and congestion.

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
i've lived in NC and SC before
pros of those areas beautiful weather all year round---pretty mild winters
things move at a slower pace down there---people just seem to be nicer
cost of living is less
cons my biggest con for living in those areas--was that no matter how nice it was--it still wasn't NY. juts loved NY too much.
sometimes the people down there---with racism and such kind of suucked.

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
Sometimes, yeah. Just because I live in NJ and my family is on LI.
Pros Dh and I are on our 'own.' My job - big time (I know that I have pretty good security as my district wouldn't want to cut music) DH's job (he keeps moving up the ladder and it's exciting!) close to Yankee Stadium
Cons like I said- my family is elsewhere (and that will definitely be a con once we have kids!) can't just drop by mom's or see my nieces and nephew when I feel like it (this has been hard on me lately) Cost of living- no doubt
I really would never want to live outside the tri-state area. I'm too much a city-goer and since I used to visit DH when he lived in the south, I know I couldn't live there. Too slow for me. And I need to be near my city AND my Yankees!

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
I would like to live some where warmer and cheaper don't really know where tho. the reason why we will probably stay here is because all of our family is here, and they are not willing to move. I do like living here but it is really expensive.

Same here. I would rather be where it is warmer and cheaper. We know our families would come if we left so thats not a problem with us.

Well, everything has its ups and downs you know...the UK has a lot of downfalls just like anywhere else.
But yes, I live somewhere else and I love it!
Pros of LI would only be the shopping, my family and the restaurants and the fact you can get into the city in under an hour.
Cons would be just about everything else...

me too...I love Queens...I lived overseas for a year so I really appreciate the convenience of my neighborhood...even if I won the lotto I wouldn't move...I would just buy a bigger house and a condo in Miami

Re: Anyone here wished they lived somewhere else?
I would love to live somewhere else! Preferably some where where there is less people like say....the suburbs of Rochester. I can buy a mansion for 250K!
But where would DH and I work? Thats the problem. The opportunities are in NYC.
So is our families!
