Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I feel like nominating myself for "What not to wear" Chat Icon I have no style. When I try to find clothes for me, I get frustrated that they don't fit right and end up buying something for the kids instead!

I'm an Ann Taylor girl. I buy a few nice things (always on sale) and add things that I find at Target or Kohls. My taste is classic/traditional so a lot of what is out there now, I just don't care for.

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I'm addicted to Target clothes, and the best part is, I get complimented on my clothes just about everyday at work and no one realizes that my clothes come from Target (nor do I offer that infoChat Icon Let them think I actually care about my clothes!) Also, Kohls can have some great sales. I ONLY shop for myself when I can get things on clearance. You would fall down on your azz if you saw the closet of clothes I've gotten for so little. I can't remember the last time I actually paid full price. And yes, I'm proud of that. I've never been into labels, so I guess that makes it easier.

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I don't buy "cheap" clothes because they just don't fit me right. I'll go to inexpensive stores like NY&Co (which really isn't THAT inexpensive, actually) and get things like jeans or non-work things.

But I try to get a little better quality for work. 90% of my stuff for work is from Ann Taylor or Ann Taylor Loft.

I don't really get 'trendy' stuff. I get practical stuff that doesn't go out of style and always looks classic.

You know, I've gotten a few dresses from Target and kohls and ALWAYS get compliments on them.

But, I have to admit...maybe it's the style I got, but twice my shirts from Target fell apart.Chat Icon

Skinny Jeans you can get for 19.99
wide leg also..

so those are 2 "new" trendy things

then get cheaper tops.....

trends are in and out so why spend alot?

I agree...Forever 21, Kohls, JCPenney, ON, Gap you can find stuff pretty cheap. I only spend $$ on key pieces that last...i.e nice black slacks, boots, purses

For some reason it's just the shirts. The dresses last FOREVER! And it's like 'one size fits all' because all this weight I lost and I can still wear the same black dress and it still fitsChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Maybe that means it was alittle too stretched out when I was heavierChat Icon Chat Icon oh well. a fashionista I am notChat Icon

For my pants and tops I wear loads of black - I tell people I'm a crime fighting ninja at night.

I invest in a nice coat, a nice purse, nice shoes and nice sunglasses. Nice (to me) doesnt have to be expensive. I've been wearing sunglasses from the SJP 'Bitten' line and they're actually really nice.

I have a gap card and use it at gap and banana outlets. I get money back for using it and coupons all the time. The first tuesday of the month is 15% off...then the coupons on top of that.

oh yeah, H&M is good too. But they're hit or miss as far as fit and quality. You could get some great quality pieces for less money. Or some crappy pieces for, IMHO, not a bargain at all!

I buy lots of clothes from The Limited, they are very trendy, the outfits are already put together for you and coordinated through out the store an if you sign up for their mailing list they send you 30% off coupons VERY often, or $25 off when you spend $75 coupons, I refuse to lose my style, it makes me feel good

I tell myself that when I am around my friends that are not married and have no children that I need remember I am young. One thing that I feel helps is makeup... i spend a lot of money on makeup and it always makes me feel more fashionable

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I cannot afford a full new wardrobe each season

I usually buy accessories to do the "trick".

Last year was big bulky necklaces. So I go and get those in the color of the fashion trend. Much cheaper than buying clothes.

I find that classic clothes can be adapted to each trend with accessories (jewerly, shoes, purses).

I actually find so much at Target. People have no clue I buy there because I mix and match.

Do you have a TJ Maxx near you? My Mom buys all her clothes there that are really fashionable, high priced clothes for much less!

Re: Just curious - fashionable moms...

I have no motivation to shop for myself. It is completely undesirable for me. i was one of those people that had to have teh latest fashions.

Now if I can find anything clean and fits then that to me is considered fashionable.

I miss it considerably - if I show up to a playdate wearing my knee high boots and low cut shirt, I feel people would just look at me wierd.

The joys of motherhood......
