Ovulating Q...

1stoff, no, I'm not ovulating, or expecting to... but I am wondering about how it works. I don't remember from the time I was TTC, and thought who best to ask than you guys.

My Q: is it true that ovulation can only occur up to 14 days before your the 1st day of AF? Or could it be longer?

Re: Ovulating Q...

I can only speak for myself, but when I do O (I don't O on my own typically), I always get AF anywhere between 12dpo and 14dpo, never longer than 14 days past.

Re: Ovulating Q...

the 14 day rule is a "book rule". A lot of ladies "O" anywhere from CD 10 all the way to CD20. It depends on your cycle length.

I know that Oing can come at anytime in the cycle, but let's say that a person's cycle is 32 days long, would that mean that they couldn't have O'd anyday before CD18 (14 days prior)? Or could they have O'd on CD10, and have had 22DPO?

Re: Ovulating Q...

Typically the luteal phase (the period of time between when you O and when you get AF) is between 12-16 days, with most women hovering around the 14 day mark. So if you have a 32 day cycle, you are most likely to O about 14 days before that (around CD18). The luteal phase doesn't vary much from cycle to cycle, maybe a day or two at the most.
