opinions on this please..

ok so my sister is engaged and was planning a wedding for this fall... she then got pregnant and is now putting off the "wedding" until she can afford it after the baby.. in the meantime.. she is currently moving out of my parents house and into an apartment and literally has the clothes on her back and that's all.. my mom, my sister and i would like to throw her SOMETHING..what would be ok? a housewarming (apartment warming), a small celebration (engagement party?)... any ideas..?? in the end, i really don't see her going back and having a "wedding" so maybe she will miss out on the real shower... any thoughts?

Why not throw her a house warming party. She can register for things for her new apartment.

When she does get married you could always have a shower to celebrate at a later date.

I think people would be more "generous" for an engagement party.... Chat Icon

IF you aren't sure that she'll get married, then do a housewarming party.
If you are sure that she'll have a wedding, then do an engagement party.

And follow up with the shower.

I would do the engagement/housewarming party asap, though so that people don't feel funny when they get invited to a baby shower shortly after the first party....let there be a little lapse of time in between.

I agree with this! Although, you can still have an engagement party even if they decide to wait a couple of years before getting married.

Re: opinions on this please..

If you have her a housewarming party and then she does go ahead and plan a wedding in the future, I think it would look odd to then throw her a shower. I think people would see it as greedy.

Re: opinions on this please..

Just curious...why wouldn't she get married anyway and have a "wedding" party or a vow renewal later?

Re: opinions on this please..

I would go with a house warming party. Because they are engaged it would be appropriate to have a bridal registry, so if people ask about gifts for the housewarming you can point them to the registry.

I'm pretty sure etiquette says that anyone invited to an engagement party should also be invited to the wedding. So if she isn't planning a big wedding in the future, people may feel slighted when they never get an invite.
