Re: Spinoff about clothing size

I generally have a negative view about my size and I think my upbringing has a lot to do with it. My grandmother was a big time culprit.

If being thin makes you happy...so be it...if just being you makes you happy, great!

Media makes it even worse. I read Julianne Moore felt she was made not to feel thin enough, and she's supposedly a size 4Chat Icon

I felt better when I was thinner, but I'm definitely not obsessed with my weight or size AT ALL.

I'm glad i met my husband when I wasn't all that thinChat Icon He respects me and thinks I'm beautiful no matter what.

Re: Spinoff about clothing size

I am so hard on myself when it comes to my body and my weight. I go out to clubs and see girls that are so much bigger than me wearing clothes that I could be wearing with my shape and I just think to myself "how come they are so confident and I am not?" I am very conservative b/c of this image of myself that I have in my head. I can't wrap my head around why I am like this. I was never an overweight kid and didn't get made fun of for my weight.
When I look at HS pictures, I was probably my heaviest as a senoir and I had no clue that I was heavy. No one ever made me feel like I was overweight or unhealthy. It wasn't until after HS that I realized and I started dieting when I was about 19, then I became obsessed with it. When I was 21, I lost almost 30lbs on WW and til this day I read the labels when I shop and I examine myself when I get dressed and undressed. Sadly, my biggest fear about weight is when I get pregnant. I fear I will not be able to handle the changes I will go through with my bodyChat Icon

Re: Spinoff about clothing size

I was always chubby growing up and was always the chubby one out of my friends. One of my best childhood friends was very weight and size conscious. The women in my family were always trying to lose weight, yet were food pushers with one another and the children. I guess I didn't know anything else . . . . You are right that it is incredibly sad. It's also a very complicated life to live and wish I could get away from this learned behavior. I am personally trying to work on removing myself from these thought patterns . . .

I will NEVER do that to my kids

you'd be surprised how it perpetuates itself.

I am hyper sensitive to it.

my husband knows I will kill people if they ever do that to my kids.

similar situation here. Not only was I "smart," I was also "tall."

Re: Spinoff about clothing size

I worked for many years in retail - and let me tell you... the things women would do to squeeze into a smaller size was unblelievable. I'd rather buy a size or two bigger and look great in my clothes than super small and look squished. I also had guys working at my store and most women preferred to get their own sizes rather than asking the guys which I think is because they didn't want the guys to know the size.

I think it's just been drilled into our heads that any size over 4 is considered "big" (which is awful) and women get self conscious about it.

Re: Spinoff about clothing size

My weight fluctuates so much, and therefore, so does my clothing size.

I have been a 0,2,4,6 & 8.

I have to admit that once I move out of my 6 pants and into my size 8s ( where I have been for the last 6 months) I feel so disappointed in myself.

I still look great and are happy with my life, but on certain days just putting on an 8 affects my outlook or mood.
I don't think that makes me shallow b/c I do not judge anyone else; I am just self critical and I wish it wasn't that way.

i am body conscious although i do not have to be. i don't watch what i eat (in fact i eat nothing but junk) and thankfully do not gain weight. however, i don't think i would be content with myself if i was overweight. it is a totally personal fear and i never judge other in re: to how much they weigh. not really sure where it stems from but in my case it is not due to low self esteem.
