Between my older sister and I: 19 months
Between my younger sister and I: 9 years

19 months is close. We were only a year apart in school, and hung out together alot, but we were very different. And even though she was older, I was the more outgoing of the two of us, and I often did things first (go away to school, get married, etc). I'd say its a competitive age difference - fighting over boys, friends, who gets what, etc.

Now 9 years is a whole different story. It wasn't until my sister was in HS that we really started relating to each other. Before that she was too young to "hang" with. But it turns out that we're a lot more alike than my older sister and I.

I'm close to them both, but they're not too close with each other. I think its more dependant on individual personalities than age differences.

My brother and I are almost 3 years apart. We hated each other growing up and we still can't be in the same room together for more than 1 or 2 hours without getting on each others nerves. But I think that has nothing to do with our age gap but with his personality

I forgot about my little brother I am 18 years older. I like the gap I didn't ever have to live with him

We are 4 years apart.

I HATED IT!!!! LOL!!

I felt like anything I did, my sister did better.

EX:
I had my confermation, she graduated HS

I graduated HS, she graduated College (more important)

It just stunk how it was never my year. I know I should like a baby now, but it really bothered me.

I am 5 years older than my brother and 10 years old than my sister. I hated it! We still have little in common due to our age. I hope my kids are closer together.

Im the baby of 5...all girls..my closest sibling is 9.5 years older than me. We are very close even though she lives in Florida...out of the other 3, while we still have that family sisterly bond, we arent close at all.

10.5 years! its great because i felt like his second mommy and we never had rivalry... but i did miss out on having someone to play with as a child

My sister: 1974
Me: 1975
Brother #1: 1977
Brother #2: 1978

So 4 kids in 4 1/2 years total...we were all really close in age - but not all that close as kids. My brothers were super-close and still are, but my sister and I had to grow on each other later in life.

I loved having siblings so close in age, and I hope to be able to do the same for Lily. (Just not as many kids!)

I only have one sibling, a sister. We are 18 months apart in age, I'm older. As kids we didn't get along at all. It was completely good cop/bad cop. Honestly, we didn't start to get along until after college. Today we are the best of friends, live a few miles away from each other and our children are almost as close as siblings (siblings who like each other ). Go know. My mother will tell you, that she would have never believed this was possible through most of the 1980's.

My brother and I are 26 months apart, but were 3 years apart in school. We were really close growing up, then when we were in college we kinda drifted apart but are close again now.

My brother and I are 14 months apart. We were very close when we were younger than in high school we kind of went our own way and then after that we were close again. We are very close now. Talk all the time.

I don't know how my mom did it with two babies.

I am 6 and 9 years older than my brothers. My brothers are closer to each other than to me, but we are still close. I think they look to me more for BTDT advice most of the time. My brothers have lots of friends in common. We would do anything for one another and care about each other. I would like to have one more child closer in age than my brothers and I were.

I am 13 years younger than my brother and 10 years younger than my sister. I liked it. My sister and I were always very close.

k - i have four brothers and they are 9, 8, 7, and 3 yrs older than me. growing up, i always had a close bond with the 7 & 8 yr age difference brothers - but not where we played together, just where they saw me as their little sis and treated me well. i played with the 3 yr brother alot, but we also fought alot b/c we were close in age, always around each other and he was the baby of the boys and i was the baby of the family. only as an older teen - early 20 something did i start to really have a relationship with the 9 yr brother - i think our family had more to do with personality differences than ages, though

I have 2 older brothers and 1 sister. I am 8yrs younger then my sister, 9yrs younger then one of my brothers and 11yrs younger then my oldest brother. I think I was an oops When I was younger I hated the big age gap (they were very mean to me) but when I became 19yrs old and a mom I formed a bond with all of them. I am extremely close with my, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't talk about 3x a day. Back then I wished it was diff however now I don't.

Oops, I never mentioned my own brother.

My brother is five years older. My mom said she miscarried in between us and the kids were supposed to be spaced three years apart.

As far as how I feel about the age difference, my brother and I are very close and always have been. I like the age difference. My mom said she wished we were closer in age but I liked the idea that each of us had a chance to be like an only child. When I came along my brother was starting kindergarten. My mom could have some time with me without my brother around.

I know that personalities are what determine your closeness but many of us are trying to space our children a particular way for personal reasons (close so they grow up together and you go through the diapers stage and then move on or spaced further apart so you have time to enjoy each other them more than you would if they were close)

I am just curious to see what people say about the age gaps to see if all of the timing and spacing really makes a difference to the kids.

there are 2 years 9 months between me and my middle sister, and 5 years 4 months between me and my youngest sister. IMO, we are all too far apart - we had different friends growing up and we didn't get along terribly well, we fought quite a bit. i am not sure if age was a factor but i plan on having my kids closer together if at all possible.

i have a feeling it's not just age, b/c me and my youngest sister get along better (we have very similar personalities) than me and my middle sister - but i have a feeling if we were closer in age we would have been very close.

20 months exactly. We are absolutely the best of friends. It was very hard for her growing up with us being so close in age. I always wanted to be with her and her friends, I dated her guy friends in high school, I went to her prom, my parents were easier on me, etc., but once we grew up and she went to college, we really started to appreciate each other more and more. Now that we're adults, I'd rather spend time with her than any other friend I've ever had. She's the person I trust most in this world.

My brother and I are three and a half years apart. Growing up, I wished we were closer in age, but now that we're older it seems less an of an issue.

My sister is 3 years, 3 months older than me and we are not that close. We are just as different as night and day. My brother is 23 months younger than me, and we are much closer (and we are closer than he and my sis are). I think this has a lot to do with our similar personalities and knowing a lot of the same people and being into more of the same things.

My sister was also the "perfect" child, so I had to do all of the breaking in of my parents, which lead to my brother getting away with murder - which I think he appreciated.

I have 5 brothers and sisters. I'm the oldest girl in-between 3 boys (2 older and 1 younger). I get along best with my sisters, who are 8 and 11 years younger than me. But it's hard in a sense because we are all in different places in our lives now (I'm married with kids and they are still single).

I don't really mind an age difference. my older brother is only 10 months older than me and we never really were close or got along well. I was just happy to have such a big family.

There is 26 months between me & my younger brother. We were super close growing up & always got along. I think the age difference was great.

I have one brother who is a year and two weeks younger than me. We were extremely close when we were little, once we became teenagers we started to fight more (I didn't like him dating my friends), but now that we're older we're very close.

My other brother and I are 7 years apart and we are extremely close. I think the fact that he has autism makes me more protective than I would be under normal circumstances. But we are still very close.
