What are my chances of getting pg with ONE IUI? UPDATE W/ QUESTIONS..
Hi Girls,
I haven't posted in a while and am hoping that everyone is doing well. I am now getting ready to do an IUI. I got a positive opk this morning and will be going in tomorrow (I am calling in sick and taking the day off). My doctor would also like me to go in on Thursday as well, but I am not sure if I can take off another day. I am a first year teacher and am panicing because I already have taken 3 half sick days and 1 personal day for infertility testing, etc. TTC is one of my biggest priorities right now, but I also don't want to jeopardize losing my job (my job does not know about my infert. issues).
I guess, I just need some reassurance that if I only get the one IUI done tomorrow that I may still have a chance getting pg or is it a waste of time?
Also, if you can offer any suggestions on how you work around all this, that would be great!
Thanks again!
_____________________________ Hi Girls,
I am back from my first IUI and it was pretty easy and painless. If I only took a 1/2 day from school, I would have def. made it back in time for my 12:10 class, which would have been good. My doctors office was able to give me a 3:30 appointment for tomorrow, so I am going to get the second IUI done.
The only concern I have is that I had to schedule the semen wash at the hospital for 7:15 again (dh has to leave to be in the city by 10:00am and it's really the only time he is availalbe). I asked the hospital if his semen can sit around until 3:30 and she said it should be ok because they leave it in an icubator.
So, my questions are:
Has anyone left the semen that long before? Dh's will be dropped off at 7:15 am and than picked up around 3:30 pm.
Also, after the insemination did it drip out? Mine was leaking out full force..
Lastly, I am bleeding a little when I wipe. Did this happen to anyone else?
Thanks so much for all of your responses and baby dust to all...

Re: What are my changes of getting pg with ONE IUI?
You can pregnant on 1 IUI. Just wondering why you are taking the whole day off? The procedure itself IMO is quicker than a PAP, and then my doctor has me lay on the table for about 10 minutes, and off I go. From start to finish, I'm in the office for less than 30 minutes.

I totally agree - you don't need to take the whole day off. It is a very quick procedure.
I think I read that the chances of getting pg with IUI is 12-15%. And it is only a smidge higher when you have two in the same cycle.
Good Luck!

Honestly, I didn't really know what to expect, so I figured it would be easier and less stressful to take the day off (at least for this first time only). After putting together a timeline, it stressed me out to think I had to be back to school by 12:00 (which would be a half day for me).
I am not sure how this is typically taken care of, but dh has to drop off and get his semen washed at the hospital (at 7:15am). They told us that this takes about two hours. I will than have to pick it up around 9:15am and than go to my obgyn's office, who also treats for infertility. His office is about 25 minutes from the hospital. By the time I get to my doctors office, it will probably be around 9:30 - 9:40. I don't know if they are going to take me right away, plus it takes me about 45 minutes to drive back to work from my doctor.
It would be nice if I am out of the office by 11, so that I can just take a 1/2 day on Thursday and get the second IUI done.

Re: What are my changes of getting pg with ONE IUI?
Just IUI it is a 10-15% chance (which is not much higher than just natural). My RE does the washing and IUI in the same office. My appointments are at 7am for drop off; and hour to "wash" and I'm usually out by 8:30 and make it into manhattan by 10:30

I got pregnant with one IUI. My RE didn't even suggest doing a second. He just told us to BD again that night.

Re: What are my chances of getting pg with ONE IUI?
It's definitely possible. I think a lot of ladies have gotten pregnant with just one IUI. If you can, also BD tomorrow night and Thursday just to be sure.

Re: What are my chances of getting pg with ONE IUI?
You definitely don't need a full day off from work for an IUI. I have done 4 months of IUI's and each time I was only a few minutes late to work. I work in a school and I know how important the first 3 years are for securing tenure. I would recommend that you tell your principal in strict privacy and confidentiality what you are going through. Trust me, he/she will be understanding if you have to be a few minutes late a day or two each month. GL!
