Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
even when you have symptoms like EWCM, slight cramps and ovulation spotting?
Or would you have no symptoms at all if you are not ovulating?
Don't the hormones that cause these symptoms indicate that ovulation is in fact happening?

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
When I was TTC with DS#2, I thought all was fine and I was ovulating. I even thought I was experiencing symptoms. Later I found out that I wasnt ovulating at all, thanks to some tests. Its so strange how the body works (or doesnt) .

basically you need an LH surge to ovulate, but that doesn't guarantee that you will ovulate. i don't know about the symptoms though - but it's entirely possible to have an anovulatory cycle. you would nee a sono to confirm, i think.

was there any rhyme or reason as to when your O? Or it just didn't happen this past month?
The human body is SO WEIRD!
I am not sure if I O'd last cycle. I have my period now, and I hope I can pinpoint it this cycle, or determine if I am ovulating at all.

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
I've been asking myself the same question! Is it really possible?
It's driving me NUTS. Between temps and charts and stupid strips that don't look right and not being sure about CF. I'm like a TTC MORON!

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
yes it is. I just went to dr. because for the last 6 months my periods have been very irregular. It turns out on the months that I had the long periods (over 40 days) I wasn't ovulating although I had the symptoms except for a temp rise. It turns out that I have PCOS after my dr. did blood work.

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
Well, I am not sure that I didn't ovulate.
I called my doc today to get some results from blood work for genetic diseases, etc. And I spoke to a nurse. Out of curiosity I asked her about the OPKs and said I never got a positive result, but was not sure I was doing it under optimal circumstances. I only tested once a day, and I also drink a lot of water throughout the day-- even though I did try to curb my intake prior to taking the tests. I also stopped taking them once I saw EWCM as I thought that was a sign of my fertile time, etc.
She said- and of course she doesn't know me, that I probably didn't ovulate. And she said it so matter of factly. I was ready to jump through the phone and hit her-- but, whatever. She said I had only been using them for one month and that is nothing to go on. But I see so many people on here have success with them, I can't help but wonder.
Anyway, this cycle I am using the Saliva microscope, and the OPKs and I will also just BD every other day from CD10 on...
The thing is- and if anyone remembers from my other posts. My cycles are regular, but on the long side-- about 45 days. At least they have been since going off BCP.
Also, less than a year ago when I off the pill (I went back on, and of course am now off), they were more erractic and my doc tested my thyroid levels, tested me for PCOS as well as some other hormone levels and everything was normal.
If I don't get any positive results with any other methods this month, nor get prego- I plan to head back to the doc-- and hopefully will sort this out.

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
randi~ I don't get +OPKs until a day or two AFTER EWCM. In fact, I usually have wet cm when I am Oing. So- even though you've gotten EWCM, keep using the OPKs. Also, it IS possible to NOT get a +OPK and still O. ESPECIALLY under the conditions you mentioned (testing once a day, lots of water intake).
The only way to truly know if you are Oing is to chart, or have your blood tested.
As much of a bltch as charting can be, it has REALLY opened my eyes to what my body is doing. Through charting I've discovered that I have a luteal phase deficiency so I'm supplementing with progesterone after I O.

You should definitely still be testing through and after the EWCM until you get your +. I usually get 5 days of EWCM before I O. I drink a lot of water and pee a lot throughout the day so the best OPK for me is the CBEFM b/c I do that first thing in the morning that way I don't have to worry about holding it or not drinking my water. Good Luck!

Re: Is it possible NOT to ovulate....
thanks-- I am just going to go b@lls out and test til I get my period this next cycle.
I admit, I was not as maniacal in my testing as I should have been-- partly because I did not want to get all wrapped up in the OPKs and the whole TTC process. But, if I don't want to waste another almost 2 months, I need to be.

Wait, so how long did you stop taking them once you saw EWCM? There's a good chance you just missed it because you were, in fact, ovulating when you got your EWCM or a few days later.

I honestly don't remember. I still continued to use them once I saw EWCM, BUT the line was barely showing up-- this is what usually happens. We also slept out on LI at my IL's house, so I was not home for the weekend and then was just busy, went out straight after work for DH's birthday, etc. I was partly frustrated because I didn't think they were working for me-- so, I didn't try to fit it in with my hectic week.
Then I had spotting at the time that I thought was maybe ovulating. Then exactly two weeks later, started to spot, then got my period.
Everything else added up, except for the damn OPKs.
