OMG THAT is why I am afraid to drive!
It's also why I have a general distaste for SUV owners though I know the vast majority are not like that.. I just know some people get them to feel safe and drive recklessly..well not everyone is in an SUV. you should be MORE careful because you could potentially do more damage.
My first accident was a woman making a blind left in front of me and I hit her passenger side where her daughter was sitting. It crumpled the door. I have a teeny car. All I could think of was "what if I had been in an SUV?" I probably would have seriously injured the little girl, and the accident was not my fault. i was proceeding at normal speed through a green

I dont feel any safer in an SUV in the snow. I feel less safe. Top heavy vehicles - higher center of gravity. More chance to topple over. But thats what we have so we make do.

Not only do I drive an SUV but I KNOW how to drive an SUV.
4 wheel drive will NOT prevent you from slipping and sliding in the snow and ice. You still have to be very careful.
People like this give people like me a bad name.
ITA. I hate the stigma and stereotype that has become the SUV driver

my sister said most of the accidents she saw on the way home involved SUVs (probably because they thought they could handle it).
I drive a (small) SUV but that doesn't make me invincible.

Well, that answers the question I just posted - and let me add - I skidded off the road in an SUV when I lived in Vermont - 4WD does not do anything on an icy road - ice is ice!!!!

I hear ya both. I drive a full sized, large, SUV and I find it incredibly frustrating when I hear things like this. I wish more people realized having a 4wd vehicle is not the end all be all when it comes to driving in the snow and ice.
