Sippy Cup Q for 2 year olds

Does your DC use a sippy cup with or without a straw?

I thought it was better for DD to use the one without the straw as it would mimic a real cup more but my dentist told me to use the one with the straw as it was better for her teeth.

When my son was in speech therapy the woman told me that you should def. use a cup with a straw it's better for their tongue somehow .. And, the dentist told me it's better for their teeth to use a straw also.

My son has pretty muc hbeen using straw sippy cups since he was able to use one. I heard it is better for speech and teeth as well. Plus he drinks more and better from them.

We used to use the straw, but he would chew the damn things up. So we use the hard spout ones. He really only uses a sippy cup in the car now.

I'm a speech pathologist...the straw is definitely better. It promotes a more mature swallowing pattern and helps oral motor strength. That being said, my almost 2 year old is still drink out of the playtex spout ones because I haven't found a straw cup that doesn't leak. Chat Icon Any suggestions for a good straw cup?

I just got the Munchkin ones from Toys R Us. So far, no leaking. The Munchkin dishwasher caddy has holders on the sides for the straws.

Re: Sippy Cup Q for 2 year olds

We just use the straw ones. DS refused the sippy cups, but went right for the straw cups. DD started stealing DS's straw cups as soon as she could crawl, so we figured it was time for her to switch.

Besides the speech thing, DC will be drinking from a straw for the rest of their lives. As adults, we still use straws for soda and many other beverages. Juice boxes have straws, etc. Why teach them a bottle, a sippy cup, then a straw? Seems easier to just go from a bottle to a straw.

Re: Sippy Cup Q for 2 year olds

I got my DS(he was 2 in december) this cup tonight

The Coolster™ Tumbler is a Next Generation Spill-Proof Cup designed for your older toddler or preschooler, who is outgrowing their baby sippy cup. The lid has no spout and the cup is insulated to keep drinks cool and fresh. The Coolster™ Tumbler uses the patented Playtex® SipEase® Valve to eliminate messy spills.

but so far he HATES it..he got so annoyed because he doesn't know how to get the milk out of it, threw it and demanded his sippy back -LOL..but I will continue trying it daily..its suppose to be much better then to transition to a cup
