Re: Folic Acid

As far as I know, taking folic acid doesn't make you "more fertile." However, you should be taking a mulitvitamin with 600-800mcg of it while TTC because folic acid reduces the risk of neural-tube defects like spina bifida. I take the Rite-Aid brand of prenatals and it has all the folic acid you need.

Re: Folic Acid

Folic Acid will not make you more fertile.

I, however, since I had a baby born with anencephaly, which is a form of spina bifida, have to take an additional 3 MG of Folic Acid each day.

The normal person takes .4 MG-1MG in their prenatal. I have to take 4 MG. I take 10 times the normal dose.

You should NOT take extra folic acid if your doctor does not prescribe it or tell you because too much of it can actually be bad for you.

Don't mean to hijack the post. I just have a question, so is taking the 800mcg that is in the prenatal I take bad for me? I thought the average person should take 400mcg and people TTC or pregnant should take 600-800mcg. Is this not correct?

You are fine with the 800 mcg in your prenatal. You are within that .4-1 MG.

I have 1 MG in my prenatal. Chat Icon
