Re: Totally Lost

I've never charted so I'm not exactly sure of the intricacies.

But from what I understand... you take your BBT (basal body temperature) with a specialized thermometer and you take your temperature at the same time each morning as soon as you wake up and record the results.

You can enter the results into a website like fertilityfriend, and it will show you when you ovulate (but only after the fact, since it detects ovulation through changes in your temperature).

Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Go on fertilityfriend.com- they have a free tutorial that takes you through all the ins and outs of charting as well as fertile signs in your cycle.

Re: Totally Lost

I use fertilityfriend.com, I put in the dates of AF. It givess me an approximate time of O date.

What type of charting are you planning on doing?

Re: Totally Lost

Thanks Ladies! I have no idea what charting process I should try. I guess the easiest one would be to go by AF. The first day of my last was Dec 26th. So between Jan 6-11th I would have Oed I can't go back any further than that because I was on the pill up until November and I never got AF on it.

What are the OPKs all about?

Re: Totally Lost

Actually with charting you can tell when you ovulate not just afterwards.

Ovulation predictor kits will tell you when you're approaching O by measuring the lutenizing hormone present in your urine - this is the hormone responsible for bringing on ovulation. You use it like a pregnancy test and hold the strip in your urine stream - the lines get progressively darker each day as you get closer to O (you need to test each day). OPKs are a good way of finding out when you might O, but the only way to confirm that you've O'd for sure is by detecting a sustained rise in your temperatures.

I'm a temper and I've found it to be really interesting, but it's not for everyone. For the first few months I would suggest a combination of temping, OPKs and checking your CM. Good luck!

Ohhhh! About how much do the OPKs cost and where do I get the special thermemeter for the temp charting? How do I go about checking my CM?

I feel like such a fertility geek, I don't know anything!
