Elf on a Shelf
I never heard of this before last night and I think it is the cutest thing ever.
Did anyone have this from their childhood?

Re: Elf on a Shelf
I do that with my kids every holiday season.. they LOVE it and it gives them something to forward to....he usually shows up a day or so after Thanksgiving and we read the book together.. then he changes his spot in the house every night.. i think it is a GREAT tradition! Elf on a Shelf

Re: Elf on a Shelf
My grandma had these elves and I saved a few, but we never had a tradition associated with them that I could remember

ditto! my mom had the same elves, but I don't remember doing the whole story that goes with it. I just emailed my mom to see if she still had any, they have to be 30+ years old!
it would be cute to start with my DS, especially with our old elves Image Attachment(s):

Re: Elf on a Shelf
I love this .. funny thing is my mom had these elves on our tree, and never knew thats what they were for.. Not sure what happend to those, im going to order.
I also have a lucky gerkin pickle that somone gave me one christmas. You put on the tree christmas eve and on christmas day the children are to look for it, and who ever finds it gets a special extra present. Im going to do this with my children also. I never had traditions growing up and cant wait to start some with my dd.

Re: Elf on a Shelf
We have that for my 4 year Caiden. We got it over a year ago, so we've used it for 2 Christmas seasons. He loves it! It definitely works! Someone on here actually mentioned it and I just had to buy it for my son.
ETA: It comes with the book so you can read the story to them when he first "appears". It's so cute because he comes out the morning after Thanksgiving and from that morning on when the kids are sleeping you move him in a different spot of the house/room. Caiden would look for him every morning. We tell him that he works for Santa and that he watches him during the day and at night he reports back to Santa if he's been good or bad. He looks forward to seeing him everyday!
