What would you do????

Hi girls,
I need your advice. I just got offered a fifth grade leave replacement and I don't no what to do about ttc. Off course I took the job, but I'm so upset right now. I really want to continue ttc, but if I get pregnant this month that would put me at 26 weeks by the last day of school. I feel like my school district will be disappointed in me if I get preggo right away on a leave replacment. I mean, I'm talking over for a pregant person and even though they can't discriminate I feel like they will think that I can't do my best job if pregnant and that they made a mistake. Also, Ineed to prove myself right now and when you are preggo you do have tendencies to not "feel" your best. I don't want to put off ttc for anything, but my question is-should I put it off this month so I wouldn't be so visably pregnant for the leave.
Also-when do you really start to show????

What would you guys do-be honest???

I would continue doing what you are doing. If you get preggo, then deal with it as it comes. either way, you intend to get pregnant, whether you are 22 weeks or 26 weeks pregnant.

How long of a leave would you take?

I don't think it should be a problem. I'm sure the first trimester will not be so fun, but just do your best! Keep trying and see what happens. Don't stress over tomorrow's worries today.

Re: What would you do????

As a certified teacher trying to get a job I say do whatever is most important to you. I don't need to tell you that it could take longer than you hope to get pregnant but most people don't get it the first time. If having a family is number one to you than you start trying despite how it "might" reflect on you professionally. If career is number one priority right now then maybe you want to wait and see. They could offer you something for September!

Take the JOB!!! If you really want a teaching position, I feel you have to put your ALL into this leave and work your hardest to get a permanent position for Sept!!!!

Being pregnant, I am certainly not going above and beyond and all out at work right now! Which IS what you need to do to get and keep a teaching job! I just cant imagine beging pregnant my first year of teaching... looking back, its a VERY demanding year and being pregnant is very distracting and you dont feel you best! I dont know how your district is, but in my district, I know for a fact they would not hire someone for next year (permanent position) knowing they are preggo! There are soooo many qualified teachers looking for jobs, they have their pick.

However, maybe you want to take it slow now, just sub or be a TA while you get preg and have the baby then in a few years really go after the job.

Tough decision and good luck

Re: What would you do????

Wow....thanks for all the advice!

I already took the job, but having a family is also a priority. Therefore, I'm not too concerned about getting something for next year I just want to make and leave a good impression this year. I'm def. going to ttc this year, but I'm wondering if I should put off this month so I can get by without having to telll them!
It is sooooo hard having to jugle ttc and a future....beings that I'm not tenr, I feel like I'm in the worst possibe position.Chat Icon Normally I'm such a go getter, but I just want a baby and I don't no what to doChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is JMO: but even if it takes some time to get PG, if you're only planning on skipping 1 month it's not really a big deal. We skipped a couple of months (we've been trying since May) and I don't feel like we missed something that could've been just b/c we skipped a couple of times. If it's going to take time missing one or 2 months isn't going to make a difference IMO. GL!

This is definitley true. Another part of me just wants to not chart and see what happens...if it is meant to be it will this month and then I will just have to embrace it! Sooooooo confusedChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: What would you do????

take the job! I don't think the district would care as long as you do not go on maternity leave befre the end of the year... since you'll be at 26 weeks (if you get lucky ASAP), you likely wouldn't have to leave before the end.

Then the summer would come! Work-wise, there is no good time to become preggo, so you might as well keep trying!

Re: What would you do????

I am a teacher too and as much as I would love a job on the island my feeling at this point in my life is "family first". I waited and waited trying to get settled and get a position on the island and basically I've been stuck in the city now teaching AND now when I finally want to really get pregnant I am having problems. Now we're going to the RE and doing everything we can to conceive and of course that interferes with work which is a pain and I had to tell my principal what was going on and so on and so forth.

My point basically.............don't put off what is most important to you. If what you want is baby don't put that on the back burner for a job. Yes, a teaching job on the island would be great but it's just a job and who knows how long it will take to get pregnant. You never know, I always thought it would be a breeze and it hasn't been. You just never know so my feeling is don't waste time and the other details of your life will work themselves out. Just my opinion. Chat Icon
