My early Christmas Present.... My son!
So Christopher Michael was born via c-section on December 20th!
On 12/18, I went to the Dr and still had no progression - no dilation, nothing, baby was "hanging out high". We knew this was a big baby so they sent me to the hospital for a growth sono which showed the baby at 9lbs 4oz. I discussed with my doctor and we decided that a section was the way to go. My Dr was afraid I would labor for awhile, maybe even be able to push but not get the baby out, and then wind up in a section.
So on 12/20 we went to St. Catherines for a section. Let me start by saying that EVERYONE there was amazing. My labor and delivery nurse was amazing and made me feel so comfortable even though I was really nervous. All the nurses were very attentive and the nursery staff was so helpful with him.
About 9:20 they gave me my spinal which honestly hurt less than getting my IV and got me all set up. Just as they started surgery I got so sick and threw up all over the place. Which was even more gross as I was already strapped in place so basically I threw up on myself.
They started the section about 9:30 and by 9:54 Christopher was here crying. They showed him to me, and I started crying when I saw him.
They they took him over to the scale and announced that he was 9lbs 14 ozs! When I heard that I just thanked the Dr for suggesting this route.
My stay at st catherines was amazing and I feel great. I havent taken any pain killers stronger than motrin since Friday AM and except for some stiffness I dont even feel like I had anything done to me. And after 4 days I am already down just about 20 lbs - only 30 more to go!
Christopher is doign amazingly! He is a great sleeper and eater, he latches like a champ even though I am supplementing as well.
He was the biggest baby in the nursery for a few days at 9lbs 14 ozs and 22.5 inches long! Everyone keep commenting on how he looks like an 8 week old!
DH and I are totally in love!
Good luck to all the December mommies still left and to all of those who will deliver in the coming months! There is NOTHING like the feeling of holding your little one.
I still have to download pics so that is still to come!
My advice for those still to deliver, is to follow your heart and Dr and dont listen to everyone else you will just widn up more confused that way.
In the hosptial the best things I did, was turn away almost all visitors the first night, I was too out of it to "entertain" so besides our parents whoever came just looked at the baby in the nursery talked to DH and left. And I sent Christopher to the nursery every night and let them take care of him. That was great because i rested and think that helped me heal that much quicker. I have plenty of time to wake up in the middle of hte night to take care of him, those first few days was worth the sleep!

yay, congrats, just out fo curiousity....does your lil one fit into NB clothes, i afraid mine is going to be big and i have lots of newborn suff.....i think im one of the last dec. mommys.... :(

And yes he does, honestly he wont fit long but he fits. Not only is he large from the weight standpoint but I think average for a baby length wise is 19-21 inches and he is 22.5 .
He fills out 0-3 months nicely but they are still big on him, just not swimmign like many newborns. The NB clothes fit perfectly.

Congratulations on the birth of Christopher! I can't wait to see pictures of him, and I love the name...we wound up using the same as our son's middle name.
I'm glad to hear things went well (other than the throwing up, but I hear that's common) and he is healthy. You were smart to send him ot the nursery too--you'll have loads of time with him, and you need to rest after the c-section.

We are so lucky! Not only do we have a beautiful son but lets mommy and daddy sleep. Last night he slept from 12:30 until 7am.
I think thats his christmas gift to us!

I had both my kids at St. Catherine's, even though I live in Rocky Point. I LOVE my doctors, and after having my first there, I couldnt bear to switch doctors and hospitals! There is one nurse in the nursery that was AWESOME both times! I forgot her name, but she was on in the evenings, i think, and was tall with short blonde hair. She was GREAT!
