Preggo mom's with colds...
what can I take to relieve the stuffiness. I can't sleep at all when I can't breath out of my nose. It makes me miserable!!!! The saline nasal drops don't do a darn thing!!!

My Dr said I could take sudafed.
Do you know which kind? What color box? There are sooo many and I don't normally take cold medicine so I'm not familiar with it.

Just the plain one. No letters after it. They are little red pills.

Re: Preggo mom's with colds...
Your post could have been mine last week. Last week I purchased a Vicks humidifier. I purchased the liquid Vicks that goes in the slot. From Monday to today, I have used it every night. Its really has helped be breath better and sleep. I actually feel no stuffiness today. I think I am going to use the plain humidifier the next few nights.

Isn't a humidifier just steamed water?

Re: Preggo mom's with colds...
I've been using a warm mist humidifier...and using a saline spray. Still really congested but it's starting to subside (almost 2 weeks later!).
I was told I can take Sudafed...and that a couple of squirts of nasal spray wouldn't do any harm. However every Dr is different so I would just call yours and see what s/he says.

Re: Preggo mom's with colds...
Jodi- I was told that plain Sudafed, plain Benadryl and plain Chlortrimeton (4hr) are all okay.
I've used Chlortrimeton occasionally this whole second pregnancy for allergies in the fall and now for a cold- my doctor is fine with it.

This is a major help in letting your cold run its course. Keep blowing your nose and lots of water. Also steamy showers. The less over the counter things you take the faster it will be over. Just use it if you need it to get some sleep. but remember they dry you out so drink water at night too.
hang in there.

Here is an article I found from the American Academy of Family Physicians that may be informative. http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030615/2517.html
