Family members don't ask. My mom doesn't ask b/c she knows it's inappropriate (I also think she suspects were TTC). And my in-laws don't ask b/c they know DH and I are very private people and we're not close to his family at all so they would never ask. I told one close friend we're TTC but she's having problems (trying for I think over 2 years) and she's very open about it so it's always a topic of discussion. Actually, one of DH's friends asked over the weekend and he just said we're in no rush!

ETA: I would just tell them to stop asking and that it's not a topic for discussion. Short, sweet, and to the point. What can they say?

Same here, we haven't told our families that we are TTC.

Same for us. My mom and sister know but are so consumed with themselves that they NEVER ask me about it. Two of my girlfriends know too. They are TTC as well so it has brought us closer.

Other than that no one else knows because I could not deal with the constant questions all the time.

I can totally relate. I had my company Christmas party over the weekend and the question of the night was "when are you going to have a baby ya know your not getting any younger" I felt like crying the whole night. We haven't told anybody we're trying. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That is exactly why we've kept the whole TTC thing to ourselves. We haven't told any family or friends. The last thing I want to feel is MORE pressure.

Re: not looking foward to baby questions

I'm on the fence, I am a questioner, but it still stinks to have to say "No", but I think that is because DD was soooooooo easy that I just figured I am super fertile!

Hope they leave you alone and let you fully enjoy your holiday!

same here. only a couple of close friends know that we are actively TTC, most just think we are playing the "whatever happens happens" game.

i always used to be the one to ask, "when are you having kids?" but after seeing what women go thru on these boards, i will never ask that question again! waaaaaay too personal!!

People have nothing better to say. When you are an older person without kids, its even worse - as far as people are concerned, my ovaries are dried prunes.

I believe I will get PG sooner than later! And thats all well and good for that person, but I am not interested in carrying a child at 52. It is risky to my health and in turn the health of my child and that is not a chance I am willing to take. I am pretty well read and educated in this area and by the nature of my work, I am a bit skeptical about having a child past a certain age. Having too much knowledge is not always a blessing. This is why I feel a bit more pressure to do it sooner than later. If by a certain time, we are not blessed with our own children, we will have to decide if and when we shall stop TTC.

I was actually referring to the fact that people feel I SHOULD be working on this because I am older. I do not appreciate reminders of my age. I know how old I am ya know? I DO know that my fertility declines as I get older - I dont need people telling me as if I am a novice. THATS what bothers me about the intrusive nature of people.

My mom keeps telling me how I should have a baby before I'm 30. She always asks me if we have any good news. It's so annoying. We haven't even been married half a year yet!

We probably won't start trying until my 30th birthday.

People are so clueless! I understand exactly what you mean. I am one of the older women on here. I just don't get why people don't realize that if a person is our age, there is obviously a good reason why we're not pregnant, and any reason is none of their business. My DH's sister cannot have children and she's 41, I would be floored if anyone had the b*lls to ask her why she does not have children.
