Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
Tania (prounounced Ta-nee-uh) and Tiana (Ty-ah-na) - mom just mixed up their names.
I went to school with an Arioch (pronounced Air-E-ock). Arioch, alhtough not common, is a biblical name.

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
OMG I used to know a guy from Eastern Europe and his name was Balki. He lived with his cousin Larry. He was such a nice buy, Larry had a bit of a pole up his arse, but OMG did we have some fun times. Appleton. That was his name. Larry Appleton. Yes, and he had a stuffed sheep named Demitri. I loved those guys, I used to see them all the time, and then one day...POOF they just disasppeared. I wonder what happened to them.

They went to Mypos where they lived off of Fresh Young Balki B's music royalties. They inspired the dance of joy epidemic of '93.

Rhiannon is a really common Welsh name.
I knew a Rhiannon. But she went by Barbie instead. I always thought Rhiannon was a much prettier name.
Hmm thats strange. My Grandmother's birth name was Rachel but she changed it to Phyllis

DW worked with sisters. Queen Anne <last name> and Queen Mary <last name>
Went to school with a Crystal. Nice name..... unless your last name is Bell.....
Another classmate was Bambi. She had a rough time in school....
my deceased sister's name is Crystal. I think its a pretty name. it is also know the middle name of my daughter.
I also think it's a good name. I know a few Crystals. However, you need to think about the last name sometimes. "Crystal" is great. "Crystal Bell" will get commented on.

DH's friend is a teacher and his student was named Female (pronounced Fe-mal-A). Her mother did not speak English when she was born and thought that the hospital named her when they put Female and then her last name on her crib. So she kept it Female and this is this girls name. Her brother is Male (mal-A). You cannot make this stuff up.
This actually makes me sad - can you imagine giving birth in another country, whose customs and language you do not know? And that because you did not know these customs or language, you gave your kids, whom you probalby love to death, names that people will forever make fun of?
My first name is pretty common in latin america (there was a spanish soap opera in the 70's named that) but it's pretty uncommon for Americans so my name gets mispronounced ALLLLLLL the time. I hated having a "different" name when I was little, but now I love it. While I wouldn't name my child something completely out there, I don't want to go with a super common name either.

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
I used to work in a daycare and I had a little girl in my class named Saorla...I think its Irish. I liked it, but its different.
Her mom had another baby and named her Fiana (Fee-anna) right around the time one of the 1st 2 shrek's came out. People would say "Oh, Fiona! Like in Shrek!?" She would get so pis*ed.
I went to high school with an Enoch (asian) and a Waldy (Hatian). One of the teachers was named Richard Finder, but we used to call him D*ck Finder.
My great grandmother's name was Margaret but she hated it so she had everyone call her Pearl.
