Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I made my maiden name my middle name, so, in a sense, that helped to ease the "transition." I'd say it took me a few months to get used to people calling me by my new last name though.

I'm married 2.5 years and every now and then I start to sign things with my maiden name.

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I've been married 2 and 1/2 years and I still hate my married name - I went from Marisa M - (4 syllable Italian name) to Marisa K (1 syllable German name) .......I just CAN NOT get used to calling myself Marrisa K ........
I can sign it fine, I just can't say it out loud. - I don't feel it's "me" at all .....

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I got married July 06 and it is still weird to me. Less weird as time goes on, yet still weird.

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I got used to it right away.

Our first initials are the same and it flowed easily for me.

My co-workers had a hard time adjusting to it though.

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

Probably 6 months or so. I made my maiden name my middle name since I didn't have a middle name!

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I'm married 4.5 years. It's very easy for me to say or answer to "Cathy marriedname" but if someone calls me "Mrs marriedname" I don't realize they are talking to me. Happens a lot at my dd's school. Chat Icon

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

It was easy for me. I don't know why but I was saying my married name almost right away. I have only fumbled once or twice and it has been a year and a half. Chat Icon

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I took to my married name pretty easily. I changed it on everything right away, and I think that helped make it easier.

The only time I am like Chat Icon is when people call me Mrs. LastName. I'm like that's my MIL!!

I'm married almost 2 yrs and it still sounds odd saying my married nameChat Icon

agreed!!!!

A few of my friends still refer to me in my maiden name...and that confuses me as well - it's identity confusion - LOL.

me too.

and half my mail...my checks...all that stuff...has my maiden name.

I think I am still in denial. Chat Icon

I don't have a hard time when I have to say my name, but I always "notice" it when I say it, so to speak.

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

Im fine with it. I am more used to being Leslie S. than someone calling me Mrs. S. My maiden name was shorter and flows from a pen much easier. The graphomotor skills needed to write my newer last name are time consuming and mush more precise.

I just wish people could pass their second grade phonics tests and learn to pronounce it. Dopes.

Over 3 years later and I am thinking of changing it back. . . Chat Icon

I use my maiden name at work, and that is where I use my full name most. I rarely introduce myself by first & last names in social context, so it's really jsut on my credit cards & stuff.

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

Changed it about a year ago (married a little over a year) and finally changed it at work a few months ago.

My coworkers REFUSE to acknowledge the new last name..so I made it a part of my voice mail message. DH told me he loves hearing it. Chat Icon

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

I don't feel like my husband's name is my name. I feel like I will never feel like its my name.

He still calls me by my maiden name. I loved it and did not want to give it upChat Icon

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

It is not so much using it as signing it...I just can't do it right...I practice because I can't get a groove like my maiden name!

Re: Question for women who took hubands name

It took a year for it to feel fairly normal, so sometimes it's still weird (we've been married 2 1/2 years) and I sitll turn around if I hear my maiden name. (There's a teacher in my school with my maiden name.)
