For those that went on vacation b/4 baby...
Is there anything I can't or shouldn't do?
Can I swim in the pool and/or beach? Can I tan? At least with 40 protection.
Any other advice, tips, suggestions...would be appreciated
ETA: I will be 26 weeks 6 days when I leave and 27 weeks 6 days when I return

Stay away from really spicy foods. I was in Jamaica and was eating lot of spicy foods which made the baby really active - it just made me nervous. Might sound silly but it did. Otherwise, we had a great time and I did everything as usual. I did try and limit my exposure to the sun because of the heat and also, I stayed out of the hot tubs.

I didn't go on vacation but got pregnant in july. I asked if I could swim and tan still and she said no problem.

I was 18 weeks when I went to Key west. I spent the whole week in the pool and at the beach. Just make sure to drink a lot of water, you can still tan and everythign you want. I did stay out of the hot tub. And if you go some place hot, expect swelling and watch your rings when you are wearing them. I would be fine when it was cooler say at night but in the afternoon in that heat my fingers would swell a lot so I wouldnt wear my rings.

Re: For those that went on vacation b/4 baby...
You can't scuba dive (affects your oxygen) You can't go off roading in a jeep (too much bouncing - I had to cancel my excursion planned 4 months before I got preggo) You cant swim with dolphins (don't know why) You can't go in a hot tub (too hot for baby)
Just apply the common sense test...if you could fall, break a limb, or suffer some kind of permanent injury from it while not pregnant then you probably shouldn't do it while you are pregnant.
Tan all you want, just make sure to keep yourself cool - go in the water and drink more water than you normally would.

You cant swim with dolphins (don't know why)
Found this:
There are 2 main reasons:
1. Potential transmission of disease from dolphin to human, such as salmonella
2. Even well-trained dolphins are still wild animals, and aggression or attacks are possible. These are animals which practice infanticide among their own kind.
While your average human might get a bruised or broken rib from a dolphin-nose to the belly, obviously, for a pregnant woman, this would be much more serious. Hence the restriction; it is for your protection, and the protection of your baby.
These are large, highly intelligent mammals you're swimming with, not goldfish. Remember, you're swimming in water where the dolphins defecate. Their feces can contain salmonella and one mouthful is all it takes for you to get it, and potentially give it to your baby. It isn't worth the risk.

Re: For those that went on vacation b/4 baby...
DH took out a catamaran and they wouldn't let me go on it. Other than that, as the girls said, I just used common sense about what I should and should not be doing. I was similar timing - 25-26 weeks.
Most important things to remember are sunscreen and LOTS of water.
Have fun!

Thats funny I was allowed to go on a catamaran at 18-19 weeks, they never even asked how far I was even though I was definatly showing at that point....
