Please tell me I didn't make a huge faux paux!
We moved into a new neighborhood a few weeks ago. My DH has met a bunch of the neighbors but I haven't since I haven't spent a lot of time outside.
The neighbor across the street came over this morning to say hello and introduce herself. I had just gotten out of the shower and was blow drying my hair when she came to the door. My dd was napping and the dogs were inside so I didn't invite her in with her 2 year old but went outside on the landing to chat with her.
I feel like such a huge azz for not inviting them in. She was really nice and what she must think of me.
I guess a playdate is called for in the near future.

If you were clearly not ready to entertain, I don't think you did anything wrong.
I may not have even answered the door at all under those conditions.
When we first moved in, we never invited anyone in. I mean, the house is in shambles and you usually are not in any position to entertain.
I say you did fine, don't worry about it.

I do stuff like that all the time. Just tell her that you weren't thinking the next time you see her and turn it into a funny story and I'm sure it'll be fine. We all do things like that - especially when unexpected things happen. If you are in a baking mood, bring over some holiday goodies and say hi when you're in the right mood - that'll smooth things over real quick!
