I answer the door for no one after dark. When we first moved in someone kept banging on my door. I finally asked them What the F they wanted, it was the police. I told them I am not answering and they needed to leave. They started screaming through the door about my missing neighbor. I told them I don't care, I am calling the cops. In the end, when the cops arrived the man screaming through my door had been a real cop. I was more worried about my own safety then some missing neighbor.

Once it is dark, I do not open the door even if DH is home. You never know who is on the other side. Any deliveries can be left at the door & if it is something i need to sign for, they will leave a notice...

Yes, but we live in an apt building. The doorman calls up to tell us if someone is on their way. If I didn't get a call and someone knocked, I probably wouldn't answer.

No, I don't. My fear comes from once living in a very poorly managed apt. building where the super would ring my door at 10 pm like a psycho and me calling my DH scared to death. Anyway I have most of my packages shipped to my store and my DH takes them home at night.

I answer the door. But I'm definately not cautious enough, probably comes from years of living in NYC, so for some reason I feel safe in suburbia (which is dumb, I know). However I do have two 90lb labs that bark like crazy and scare everyone when they come to the door though, so I guess that helps a little.
BUT, when in doubt don't answer, better to get a package the next day, or offend someone, than what the alternative could be.
You can also ask who they are and for ID through the door too, which although not foolproof can help.

I will always check out my window to see who it out there first. I can see out my son's window to the front steps and I always look first.

I get UPS deliveries and pickups as late as 8pm, but they never bang on the door and wait for me to answer unless I have to sign for it
After he left the package at the door I was wondering why he was banging so many times if I didn't even have to sign for it.
I totally WOULD of done the same thing! I was just wondering y why he so persistant?!?
worse comes to worse they redeliver or u have to pick it up.
Maybe he was seasonal help...

It's crazy how may stories I am hearing about home invasions. My Aunt & Uncle were victims only 5 blocks away from my house... I think I'm going to get some type of protection for when DH is working one of his 24 hr shifts....scram lowlife

I can see the parking lot from my window, but there are so many palm trees blocking my view so at night it's hard to see.

DH works nights now so I really noticed I became more chicken at night...I still answer the door here and there but theres many times I just let them leave it outside
