First...you should try the infertility board with this question, more people have taken Clomid on there than anywhere else in this forum.
Second...I don't know how far past your ovulation date you had the spotting, but it could be implantation bleeding.

I took Clomid and it never made me get AF early. I did however have on and off bleeding in the 1st 3 months of my P/G with DD#1.
