How long after induction?

My SIL was induced yesterday at 9PM (UK time to 4PM here). Just wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes after being induced - would love to know when I'll be an aunt!

Re: How long after induction?

Well I was induced on Saturday at 8 am and I had my baby on Monday at 9 pm.

It depends, also if she is in an NHS Hospital, depending on how many midwives are on the ward at any given time, they can't give the drugs....but induction can be a long process....

(this question is best asked on the parenting board anyway)

I hope you are an aunt soon!!!

With my DS my water broke around 9:30pm, but I wasn't contracting regularly so they gave me pitocin at around 2am and my DS was born at 5:21pm. It can take a while.

it all depends. I was induced after waiting 3 hours to go from 4-5 Cm. After I was given pitocin I gave birth in a couple hours. some take a long time others don't.

She's in London - Kensington area.

I don't think she was dilated at all from the start. Her due date was 11/26 and they decided they'd induce her Wednesday night if she wasn't getting anywhere.

Maybe tonight or tomorrow! Thanks!

Re: How long after induction?

Not sure which hospital she's at. I just know that she & her husband pay for private healthcare (a little incentive to do her best to get that baby out naturally so they don't have to pay for a c-section Chat Icon )

Re: How long after induction?

I was induced at 10:45 am on a Monday and my DD was born 4:48 pm on Wed via c-section...my induction never worked.

My aunt was induced for both her kids and within 7 hours they were both born. Everyones body responds differently.

Yikes! Chat Icon If my baby doesn't come on his own, I'm scheduled for induction next Tuesday night. Didn't realize it could take so long.

Guess I'd better get walking!

Good luck to your sister--I hope you get good news soon!

hmm. probably won't be for a while then.. the first usually (although not always) takes the longest.. But you never know!

With my first the entire duration was 28 hours (both were induced) and with my second it was 4 hours from start to finish! In both instances, things usually went lightening fast after my water bag was ruptured. the contractions were quicker and stronger and I began dilating more and more.

Good luck! Keep us updated!

Re: How long after induction?

With my first they didn't give me Pitocin, but they gave Cervadil(sp) to start dialating me, and they gave me that around 7 am and DD was born at 9:50 pm.
