When do you stop mowing your lawn?

I know that it's getting colder out and that the grass should slow down with its growth, but we haven't mowed in a few weeks and it's looking quite shaggy.

Is there a certain point when we should stop mowing? DH wanted to give it one last mow before the colder weather sets in, but it just seems odd to me to be mowing a lawn in the middle of November

Our landscapers just cut the lawn this past SAturday. Hopefully that will be the last time for the season. They used to come weekly, but throughout the fall they have just been coming as needed. I think the last time we had it done was 3 weeks before.

My husband will do the final cut this weekend and put down winter fertilizer. It's a little later than usual because of the warm weather we had.

OK - so I guess this weekend (weather permitting) will be the last mow of the season

we moved for the last time two weeks ago. We've had frost here a few times already though so the grass is done growing.
We use organic fertilizers only. Winter fertilizers are the biggest offender in run off problems.
here are some facts from the National Wildlife federation-
30% of water consumed on the East Coast goes to watering lawns; 60% on the West Coast.

18% of municipal solid waste is composed of yard waste.

The average suburban lawn received 10 times as much chemical pesticide per acre as farmland.

Over 70 million tons of fertilizers and pesticides are applied to residential lawns and gardens annually.

Per hour of operation, a gas lawn mower emits 10-12 times as much hydrocarbon as a typical auto. A weedeater emits 21 times more and a leaf blower 34 times more.

Where pesticides are used, 60 - 90% of earthworms are killed. Earthworms are important for soil health.

"One 40-pound bag of synthetic fertilizer contains the fossil-fuel equivalent of approximately 2.5 gallons of gasoline, and mowing for one hour with a gasoline-powered mower generates the same amount of pollution as driving a car for 20 miles, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)."

"To keep lawns green, we apply about 10,000 gallons of water, which leads to fungal diseases and weeds that attract pests, so we douse our coveted green patches with approximately 67 million pounds a year of synthetic pesticides."

"Numerous studies have linked common household herbicides and pesticides to asthma, cancer, reduced fertility and neurological harm to fetuses, infants and children. In a February 2006 Occupational and Environmental Health study, home and garden insecticide use during pregnancy and childhood was associated with an increased risk of childhood leukemia."

I will mow ours on Saturday for the last time & put the winter fertilizer down & winterize the lawn mower...I haven't mowed the lawn in about 3 weeks bc it was not growing
