OK - back from the dr....

He felt it, ultrasceened it...

I feel dumb. he kept asking how long I think i had the lump - I vaguely remember feeling it before, but not sure when...

First he thought it was nothing. But was not happy with me not remembering when I 1st felt the lump. He said if I noticed it last year, he'd be less concerned than if I just noticed it now - but I dont get it? What if I called last year and said "Hey, I just noticed this lump..."

Then he said we could either leave it alone, needle biopsy it, or remove it. Depending on my level of anxiety about it.

I said, "Well, I'm not the medical professional - I dont know how anxious I should be. If you think its nothing, then I'm ok with leaving it alone."

Then he says he isn't saying it is nothing. There may be a concern. Not that he thinks its cancer, but he wants me to try really hard to remember when I 1st noticed it.

So, I said, "Well if a lot is riding on when I may have noticed it, then I'd rather not guess, so lets needle biopsy it...."

Not for nothing, but why is he relying on some idiot like me to make this kind of decision????

ETA - I scheduled the biopsy for Nov 6...

Re: OK - back from the dr....

Get the biopsy done but depending on the results, I may get a 2nd opinion. Granted they need to know exactly how long the lump has been there, but regardless how long it's been there a lump is a lump. Make a decision, ya know...he is the dr, not you Chat Icon

Don't get yourself crazy about it yet. My mother has had many lumps and cysts removed (which is why I have to check all the time) and thankfully none have been anything to worry about.

He honestly didnt seem all that concerned, but then he kept asking when I noticed the lump, and seemed a bit more concerned when I couldnt give a definitive answer - I THINK I had it for a while - I just dont remember anything anymore since having a baby!!!! Chat Icon

Re: OK - back from the dr....

Stick with having the biopsy done and then depending on the results maybe consider getting a second (or third) opinion.

I agree. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think the reason that he was so concerned about when you noticed the lump, is that if you noticed it a year ago and it hadn't changed at all, it would probably suggest that it isn't something serious. Just more info for him to go on.

i think you made the right choice!!

and don't feel bad i have this pain in my hip and the ONLY reason that i know i have had it for over three months is bc i mentioned it to my mom and SHE remembered me complaining about it - i felt like an idiot going to the doctor and explaining that i have been in pain for over 4 months but never really realized how long it has been! anyway , you made the right choice - keep us updated Chat Icon

Re: OK - back from the dr....

Go for the biopsy...smart move.
But, like another poster said - if it hasn't changed, then it's probably nothing.
My sister had a lump that hadn't changed and it was nothing - I've had a weird lump since I'm about 25, but it hasn't changed and has been tested and is also nothing.

Good luck w/ the biopsyChat Icon Chat Icon
