Have you ever walked out of a job?

And just up and quit?

Of course this is just a fantasy of mine, my DH and my bank account would murder me, but I was just wondering if anyone has done it -

What gave you the courage to do it or what was the last straw? How quick did you find a new job?

I resigned from my last job w/o having a new job lined up. I just couldn't take the misery anymore. I gave them 2 weeks notice (ended up staying for 3 weeks bc they asked me to). In those 3 weeks, I used a ton of my time to look for a new job, and 1 day before my last day at the old job, I had a new job lined up! So I basically ended up with a 3 week vacation in between jobs! It was great.

No I haven't. I wanted to but never did. Job security means too much to me.

My first job was at a major Wall Street company, and I went in to quit and give my 2 week notice, and little did I know that whenever someone in my company quit they have security escort you out immediately and change all of your passwords! (I had access to confidential investor info., and traders could possibly steal that info. after they quit if they still had access). So, it wound up being immediate though I thought I would have more time!

It was the only time in my life when financially I would have been able to quit without a backup job--I was making a very good salary there--and I was unemployed for a month before I got a job in a completely new field that I love. That was 6 years ago.

yes...i worked for the company for 5 years and my boss was always an ahole, but i grinned and beared it. one day he was upset with the totals i gave him on the monthly report and he threw it back at me...the entire report! so i finally had had enough. i walked into my office, grabbed all of my pictures and personal property and walked out. he must've thought i was just going home for the day to cool off (as i usually did) but he called me the following morning when i didnt come in to ask if everything was okay. i told him no it wasnt and that i wasnt coming back.

i found a job within a month in a completely different field and i'm sooooooo much happier!!!!

Thank you for sharing...reason I ask is because there are so many things wrong here, I dont even want to get into it. But like Barb said, job security is very important to me, so it would take a LOT for me to do that. The thing that bothers me though is that I have heard stories, just like Emily said, about people throwing things at other employees. I just don't think I could handle that! That is insanity! I couldn't be around that. Hell, I would walk out and drive over to Starbucks if I had to and work there temporarily, ya know?

when i was in college i worked in a catering hall for a few weeks 1 summer.
they treated me and the rest of the staff so horribly and we were so underpaid that i quit.

my parents paid more for my uniform than i got paid for my whole time there.

Yes, I did it once. It was the best feeling. I walked out on a Friday and Saturday I found another job that I loved.

No. Although I thought about doing it many times.

I never did it because networking is huge and I try not to burn bridges. You just never know who knows who and what the future may bring.

I did this once. It was in college and I worked in the dining hall. It was horrible. I dreaded every moment at the job and every moment before the next shift. So I left and never went back. They called me several times and finally I just said, send me my last check I'm not coming back. I found another job at the college book store that I loved.

I have come quite close but never actually did it. I think it would only be under extraordinary circumstances for me to go through with it.

Never just walked out...but I did know on my first day that that job was totally not for me and I quit two days later.

ME ME ME!! And pretty recently too. I left a great job for one that I thought would be a wonderful career move. BIG MISTAKE!! Now I am currently on the job search.

Honestly- One of the best decisions I made was leaving that miserable place. Ive gotten interviews at some of the most prestigious financial firms on Wall Street within the past 4 weeks.

Things happen for a reason.

Yes and I am still shocked with myself that I did. I was completely misled when they hired me and I found myself in a horrible situation. I lasted 6 weeks. I didn't have any other job to go to, but I did get something in a couple of weeks.

I did this when I had a telemarketing job in college. It was so horrible I walked out at luch time and didn't go back.

I did a couple times. But they were crappy retail jobs.

One was in Great Neck and the bosses were so mean, and the pay sucked. I went to Hawaii with my family, and never went back to work when I came home.

Another time I had HORRIBLE tonsilitis, and I called in sick. And I NEVER call in sick. My manager got nasty with me and hung up on me. So I called back and said "Don't you get nasty with me when I'm legitimately sick!! I QUIT you stupid *****" Oh that felt good!!! Then she ended up getting fired (or forced to quit) due to shoplifting. Haha!!

When I was in HS, I worked at a bagel store. The owner was such an A$$. Apparently I cut one of the croissants "wrong" so he yelled at me and picked up the croissant and threw it at the wall. I was like - buh bye!!!
