Shoes Off??

Does anyone request guests in their homes remove their shoes???

Do you find this unacceptable???

I just feel people walk all over the place with their shoes on and it sort of annoys me. I am so picky when it comes to my baby's room and my house. But I am respectful in people's homes and ALWAYS remove my shoes.

I have had people visit us and walk in the baby's room (carpeted) with shoes on and it just bothered me. Now that we are building a brand new home with everything NEW I would klike to keep it NEW and CLEAN!!
Your Thoughts................?

I ask my guest to remove their shoes immediately. We have light carpets and I don't like the dirt being brought in.

Re: Shoes Off??

I wouldn't feel comfortable asking guests to remove their shoes. I know my dh is very uncomfortable without shoes. My thought is just vaccumm after the guests leave.

Re: Shoes Off??

I HATE it when people ask me to take my shoes off most of the time-- I mean, it depends on the situation.

If I am going somewhere for dinner and I have a whole outfit on-- my shoes go with my outfit and I also don't like being fully dressed without shoes on.

I have to agree. I would NEVER think of asking anyone to remove their shoes when entering my home. I want people to feel welcome and at ease when they are here. If they choose to remove their shoes, that's fine, but, I think it is, extremely, rude and in poor taste to ask people to do so.

I also don't mind if people ask me to remove my shoes. When in Rome, do as the Romans Chat Icon

I could not agree more...I want people to feel comfortable in my home & I think asking to take your shoes off puts people on the spot! Carpet will get dirty & can always be cleaned. If you are really into keeping things clean, don't have the carpet & you won't have to worry what anyone walks on it with

I also agree. I don't like it... what if I am wearing sandals.. I don't want to walk around your house barefoot, sorry. Socks maybe. But either way, it should be my choice if I want to take them off.

ITA.

I would also find it somewhat odd if a guest came over and removed their shoes in my home - unless it was someone I was very close with and it was a casual thing. I don't think it's polite to go to someone's house and take your shoes off unless you happen to know them very well...

How dirty can their shoes be? I'd just ask them to wipe their feet on the mat outside when they come in...

Re: Shoes Off??

I don't know that I think it's rude. I generally don't care either way except that my feet are ALWAYS freezing, so I have been to people's houses where they asked me to take my shoes off, and even with socks on, they were so cold so that's really the only reason it might bother me. I prefer to be shoeless anyway.

I usually take my shoes off at my house, but wouldn't ask someone else to (unless it's exceptionally wet or muddy out.)

You didn't ask them to remove their shoes but you think it is rude? I keep my shoes on unless I am asked to remove them and I don't mind either way.

my cousins are from upstate NY, and my/their grandparents and aunts/uncles from LI were always annoyed by them taking their shoes off in the house (they would also wear baseball caps in the house and my LI relatives also couldn't stand this!).

Personally I always take my shoes off at home but would never ask someone else to do so in my home. When my dd was crawling around people were aware and usually took them off, but I never asked. At other people's home if I see them take off their shoes I will also but if they have their shoes on I keep mine on.

Re: Shoes Off??

I'm going to be an odd ball here, but DH and I take our shoes off and ask company to do the same, esp on days it rains/snows, etc.

Most times, when we have friends/family over, they understand and take them off when they're in the front foyer.

Re: Shoes Off??

We don't wear shoes in the house, but we've never asked guest to remove their shoes. My family usually does when they visit, but I think that's mainly because we grew up in a shoes-off household. ILs don't take their shoes off, neither do other guests.

Re: Shoes Off??

I wouldn't ask someone to. I'd rather have to clean up then make a guest feel uncomfortable. We also have a dog and even though I try to wipe his feet off he inevitably walks on my floor and carpets with his dirty little feet so we have to clean anyway.
