Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We were lucky. My in laws gave us $50,000. We definitely couldn't have done it without them. They did this for us and for my husbands sister as well. Chat Icon

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

we started out small and eventually bought up. We have always put 20% down.

My parents did offer to loan us the down payment if the house we were selling didn't go to contract, but it did.

My parents loaned us the money for our original investment - the co-op we bought when we got married. We paid it back to them, with interest, in about a year.
We were then able to use the sale of the co-op to put money towards our house purchase, which we financed completely on our own.

We put down 10% and used money we received as gifts from our wedding and I cashed in some stock my Dad had bought me when I was young.

My Mom paid for our entire wedding with the exception of a few small things.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

I used my dad's inheritance and my mom loaned me $50k at 2% interest- paid monthly for 10 years to buy my co-op. I put down 34% for the co-op. so my mom's loan is like a second mortgage with just really low interest!

Now we're buying a house and need the full proceeds from the co-op to put 20% down. My mom is giving me a 3 year break from the payments, but I'm hoping to be able to save and give her a large lump sum before 3 years.

I could have bought the co-op without my mom's loan, but it's nice that I've paid off $10k of her loan instead $1k if I took a higher mortgage.

BTW- my mom gave $10k for the wedding, the rest we paid for. We're still paying for the honeymoon!

We paid for our wedding and bought our house at the same time. We only put down 5% on the house and had only 75 people at the wedding. My mom gave us the videographer and cocktail hour as her wedding gift and his parents gave us our hm.

As for the house, we did it ourselves and have had no help from anyone.

We put down 10% and had no help from anyone...although we used the sale of our co-op.

When we bought the co-op in 2001 we had to put 20% down ($30,000) - we did not have financial help then either. But we lived with DHs parents for a year and between what we had already saved plus what we saved living with them we were able to do it. So I have to give credit where credit is due...they helped us by letting us live rent and expense free for a year.

My mom gave my coop. She bought it 18 years ago and it's now worth alot of money but I have to split it with my sister...so I'm buying her out...giving her half the money so she can find her own place. Without that DH and I would never be able to afford to live where I live. I love my mom!Chat Icon

35% down on our coop...all on our own. We have made great interest on it and plan on using that for our downpayment on a house

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We didn't put any money down. At the time got 6.5%. We paid PMI for a year and than appealed to get it dropped, which it was.

We saved the money ourselves. I did get a small inheritance from my uncle but 80% of the money we saved.

We put down 5% with no help from our parents and we are proud of it!
