Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

we did 100 percent financing but we also had money from the co op we sold..we're using that to fix up the place. my dad gave us money as a good faith deposit since we didn't have the money from the co op yet when we signed but we gave it right back to him after closing

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We put down 5% on our own. My grandma gave us a couple of thousand (she wanted to!) and my in-laws contributed a little as well.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We both lived home always before moving in together = a lot of $ saved. I went to cheaper schools, so as not to have a student loan over my head. Both always had used car, no leasing or financing, etc.

All the sacrificing was worth it.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

we used our wedding money as our downpayment, no help from the folks, but they did pay for our wedding (just the hall and photographer).

Our down payment & closing costs was $38,000 which also included a large chunk from my DH's annunity through his union.

We put 20% down ourselves, but my parent's would have helped us if we needed it and I would have graciously accepted.

It seems like a lot of people look down on those who have received help, and I am not sure why.

I wonder that too. It is not like we asked for the money. It was given to us freely and willingly. My parents always believed that they should take care of their children.

We had bought the land in Feb 2002 knowing we were going to build on it one day. When the one day came, we used the land as our down payment for the house. We had no help from anyone

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

Dh bought a condo- that we both lived in for almost 2 years- he paid for that himself- I paid closing costs- but he put the down payment down!

Then we bought our house and we used the profits from the sale of the condo to put down, plus some money we had saved.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

I bought my house myself (didn't even know DH at the time) and put down 20% - 25% - I think it was closer to 20%. I had saved the money on my own - no help.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We aren't buying anything just yet, but my dad already offered several times to help us out with a downpayment if/when we need it. My parents are so generous and we appreciate everything they do/want to do for us!

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

the second house, we used our wedding money!

put 10% down both times.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

I was selling a co-op that doubled in price. I was about to close on the house when the co-op board rejected my prospective buyer and I had to start all over! My parents lent me $$K so I could continue to close on the house in addition to our savings so i put more than 30% down. I am TOTALLY grateful for that tremendous blessing.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

We put 20% down on our condo of our own $$. No help- my parents are trying to sell their house in order to pay off their own mortgage/loans etc... IL's were furious that we moved out of state so no offer of help from them was ever expected.
We paid for our own wedding too.

Re: I hope this isnt too personal but...

DH received money from his father's pension (who passed away when he was 16). We used that to put 10% down, financed 90%. My parents lent me $5000 to cover some of the closing cost! My parents would have given more, but they paid entirely for our reception hall where we were getting married 3 months later!
