Does your insurance cover your prenatals? I have Oxford and it doesn't

OK, I'm confused..... what vitamins are pre-natal? folic acid? what else?
I'm just loitering in this site becuase we'll TTC probably next year..... and frankly, I was going to eat my normal diet. Since DH and I eat at least 1-2 tomatoes a day each, I wan't even going to take folic acid....
(I should mention that we eat tons of veggies-literally $60-75 a week for the 2 of us! The rest of our diet is a lot of nuts, chicken, fruits, and chesse... Meals are all home-cooked, so there's and no pre-packaged food, soda, empty calories... not becuase we're health nuts, we just like to eat this way  )

My OB/GYN was fine with me taking the over the counter prenatals because of this problem.

ask your dr. to give you 90 pills per prescription? this way you refill every 3mths. thats what I did. and it's cheaper this way

nope....mine cost $45 per bottle for Prima Care. That's why I am only using the CVS brand for now. They are $6.99 and have all the same exact ingredients as the $45 ones.

My Dr. said save you money for the baby, buy over the counter, they have the SAME ingredients.

Oxford won't let you do this with any prescription. My ob/gyn tried with my BC pills to do that since the co-pay was $50.
If they cost $50, then they are not covered. Mine were $28 and weren't covered b/c they are considered herbal.

Yes. A month's supply is a little under $10. I take Duet DHA and have Medco for my prescriptions.

I skipped the hassle and just bought them over the counter from Target. I think they were around $10 for a 90-day supply. I supplemented the only missing ingredient with omega-3 pills for another $10 (maybe), and I got more of the nutrients that way.

Which one are you taking?? (for a copay of$50)
I asked if I can get a few months filled at the same time because I am going away, and they told me I can because I am paying for the vitamins myself, and Oxford doesn't cover them. (again Prima Care $46 )

I have GHI amd I just had to pay the 5.00 for the ones I got, there was a generic form- maybe that is why.

Prenatal vitamins have higher concentrations of different vitamins & minerals than regular everyday vitamins. As for folic acid - I don't care how healthy you eat every single OB on LI will prescribe folic acid supplements b/c of the research which shows a decrease in neural tube defects of substantial proportion. IN fact, most MDs recommend taking increased levels of folic acid for 3 months prior to TTC and continuing throughout pregnancy.

I pay $15 for 3 months - my insurance has an online pharmacy and they send you 3 month's worth for the one co-pay.

I didn't pay $50. I paid $28.50 for mine. I don't remember the name, it is a popular one with added DHA. My pharmacist told me that Oxford doesn't cover vitamins, even if they are prescribed by a doctor.
Oxford was very good for pregnancy, $ucky for BCP and prescriptions. When I was on Zofran, they wanted to fill it every month instead of every 10 days b/c it was $900 for that 10 day prescription.
I also have my DH's insurance (he is a city employee) and it was finally covered for $10 under his PICA plan.

I asked my doctor for a prescription but he told me a multi-vitamin with 400 folic acid is sufficient until pregnancy.

I heard about that too, with Oxford. I usually have to pay a little extra on brand name drugs (over my copay) for prescriptions. But at least they cover most of it.
