Speaking of terrorist attacks
After 9-11 did you or someone you know change their job location from the city to LI or somewhere else because they were afraid to be in the city?
I know some people who were in the towers and got out but would never go back. I also know some that did.

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
No, I don't know anyone who relocated because of 9-11.
My brother (who was there and survived) relocated a few years later for unrelated reasons.

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
That's how I met DH.
He was in a few buildings over. I wouldn't say he left NYC because he was afraid, more so because he couldn't operate the business from NYC after everything happened, so he moved down to the Philly area, where his business partner lived.
A few months later, we met...

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
I know a few people that left.
In one case, I can't say I blame one couple. Their place was in Battery Park City & my friend's wife (SAHM) was home with her 6 month old. Debris was hitting the windows & they were evacuated by the National Guard.
The other one needed several days off of work after witnessing the building go down from MIDTOWN, not near the WTC. Her "trauma" (as she called it) annoyed the crap out of me since she was standing next to me when it happened. I was 8 months pregnant & back at work by Thursday, the 13th.

Yes, I left downtown, went to Midtown, and later went to Stamford, CT.
After seeking professional help in dealing with PTSD, I am now back in NYC.

Yes, I know someone that was in the south tower, escaped, and wandered the city in shock for a day....He now works in NJ. His company provides a car from LI.

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
My friend who worked on Wall Street was so freaked out she moved back to Cleveland. *Insert a Cleveland joke here* My other friend took advantage of everyone else quitting or moving out of the city to get a higher paying job at the Financial Center. As you can see it goes both ways.

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
i dont know if this counts but after 9/11 I refused to apply for any job in the city and I avoided jobs where I would be forced to take public transportation.

DH & I both work in NYC. In fact my DH is on a job (he's a carpenter) at WTC aka Ground Zero. It def. scares us, but we both can't live in fear.

Re: Speaking of terrorist attacks
I worked a couple of blocks from the former WTC and was there the day of the attacks...although I did experience some nightmares about a year later, knew a few people who lost their lives in the towers, I would still never leave downtown...I love my job and I love downtown...
But I do know a lot of people who would never return to work downtown...can't blame them though.
