brief update on my dad
I posted previously that my father will be having open heart surgery (quadruple bypass) very soon. Well, he found a great team of surgeons who came highly recommended and is having the surgery next Tuesday.
The doctors have given him a great prognosis after the surgery, given his age and otherwise excellent health. They rearranged their schedules to my dad's surgery as early as possible, as I am getting married just shy of 4 weeks after his surgery!
I'm glad he has confidence in his surgeons! Plus, the surgeon told my dad he can golf once or twice before the surgery - just what my dad wanted to hear.  He isn't allowed to power walk or jog before the surgery for obvious reasons, but they say he'll be back up to his full activity afterwards.
I have had time to process it all and accept it... but I think we're all still a little scared for Tuesday. I'll be so relieved when this is all behind us and my dad can actually ENJOY his retirement. He's earned it with all he's done for his family over the years.
If you have any spare prayers, please say a quick one for him!
Oh, and we're happy about the date, too. It's 7/17/07 (plenty of 7s!) - plus, it would have been my late aunt's 70th birthday. (She was very dear to us and died way too young). 17 is also our family's lucky number - it was my dad's and my oldest brother's sports number when they played in college.  It's silly the things you start to think of when this stuff happens.

Best wishes to your dad and your family.
My father had quadruple bypass surgery a few years ago, in July actually. And he's currently enjoying his retirement years and still plenty active!
I hope all goes well and I wish him a speedy recovery!

Wishing your dad a speedy recovery!!!
He sounds a lot like my FIL who is retired and extremely active. He had a hernia a couple of months ago and was hiking the Amalfi Coast with a backpack a couple of weeks after surgery!
I hope all goes well with your dad!! And congratulations on the lucky date! We are big believers in 7's around here too.
