Re: OK...Help us...
Does she have a house, hubby and kids? If so some things that were helful for us was that one group of friends got a cleaning service for us (this was more useful the weeks after, we didn't let a lot of people in our house during because of germs, but I know I am a freak like that.
A lawn service with edging and hedge services...that really helped DH and allowed us to spend more time together on the weekends.

Re: OK...Help us...
I'm sorry I keep posting, things keep popping in my head. If it's ok, I will keep posting the things that we received at home that helped. If I get overbearing or annoyiibg feel free to say so.
OOh I never followed up. If she has kids offer to take them off her hands for 8 days (pne day a week while she is on chemo) or offer 8 days of day care (although she might not love that idea cause kids come home with a lot of germs and stuff from day cares, it's just human nature)

Re: OK...Help us...
OOh, does she have an ipod? If so, maybe get her small one so she can listen to the music she wants during chemo? Or get her the really upscale one where she could download games and tv shows and movies from itunes or maybe just an itunes gift card
8 bottles pf hand sanitizer?
ummmmm still thinking

I am bad when it comes to creative ideas but I just wanted to say that I think this is one of the nicest things I have ever heard.
How sweet of you and your sister to be so kind, caring and considerate. She is very lucky to have friends like you guys!

Maybe some gift certificates to something like Peapod so she doesn't have to go out to go grocery shopping.

Re: OK...Help us...
I probably wouldn't get her food because I think they feel very sick afterwards.
I think accessories are the way to go. Scarves, sunglasses, bags, shoes. I would love that.

Re: OK...Help us...
Since she has a daughter - maybe give your friend a certain amount of 'coupons' for sleep overs for her daughter - maybe over your house or your sisters?

Re: OK...Help us...
thanks again guys for all of the suggestions and ideas.
i cannot even begin to tell you the helplessness i feel as her friend. I know i am there for her as much as i can be but to watch her go through this, it truly is heartbreaking.
we have always been close, this has brought us even closer and i see the pain.. i spent time with her at sloan while she was getting her chemo...its so surreal to me sometimes...
it doesnt help that she started the year off with losing her dad suddenly to a heart attack...
what a freakin year!!!!!
sorry had to vent!!!!

Re: OK...Help us...
What about 8 days of prepared meals (or whatever # you can manage).
When my mom went through radiation, people from her church had a calendar that people signed up on for bringing over a hot meal. It was a Godsend for my dad and me, because we never had to think about dinner for about a month and a half. She may not eat the food, but it will free up time and energy for the family.
for your friend.

Re: OK...Help us...
If you wanna do something really over the top - if it's financially feasible - maybe send her and DH to a B+B for a weekend, or something like that, and watch the kids to celebrate the end of chemo...

Re: OK...Help us...
is she crafty? maybe some skeins of yarns and some needles to make something? 1 skein would make a hat, 2 a scarf . . . 8 or so for a blanket.
