I am so sad for my DH today
exactly 20 years ago (next month) DH's father passed away suddenly from a heart attack. 
DH and his dad were VERY close and he will never get past the hurt. there are 2 days each year that it's the worst. Today and July 7th, which is the day he died. 
We're spending Father's Day with my parents. My dad ADORES my DH, he's the son he never had. and DH really loves my dad. I am so happy that they have such a great relationship, but my heart aches for DH today
anyone have nay advice for me? I always feel like I should be doing or saying something more than I am. it's going to be a long day

My Dad died suddenly of a heart attack right before Christmas '03. My DH avoids the topic during the holiday's and father's day. I personally think that is the best way to go unless you want to upset your DH on an already sad day. If he wants to talk about it he will.

my father died suddenly in 2000 - ITA with this approach. Sometimes i feel like talking about it, sometimes i dont- he will let you know if he wants to talk about it.

my father died suddenly in 2000 - ITA with this approach. Sometimes i feel like talking about it, sometimes i dont- he will let you know if he wants to talk about it.

Today we are having family over for a BBQ. It helps me to have people around on this day and also on mothers day. I lost both of my parents

I lost my Dad 8 years ago. I just try to think of the good memories and keep busy with other things to distract myself. So sorry for your DH..
ETA For all of us that have lost our Dads
Usually my family gets together for a bbq/swim
but this year they are all in Vegas and I can't make the trip so I have to really keep my mind busy with good thoughts!

I lost my dad over 10 years ago and it is still a little tough on Father's Day. For me, Fathre's Day is tougher than the other holidays since you focus on other things on the other holidays.
He'll still hurt, but I am sure it helps that he gets along so well with your dad. I agree with someone else - if he wants to talk about it he will.

thank you everyone! we had a great day today. I love watching my Dad & DH together!! we went to the cradle of aviation museum and they were so cute together, getting all excited over fighter jets and NASA stuff

I lost both my parents. Dh lost his Mom suddendly in Dec 2005, his dad is no where around for years, We usually go to the movies to get our minds off of it.... it helps, if we want we talk about it too. Just being there for each other helps alot. HTH

I understand how hard Fathers Day is...my father is not in my life and my Grandfather passed away about 13 years ago...it's a hard day. We just spend it with DH's family

My DH lost his dad 15 years ago this month at 17, his dad was 42. This is my DH's 2nd father day and I wish his dad was here to see what a great dad he is. I can relate to your situation.

DH's dad died last year in August 3 days after we came back from our HM.
We went to a BBQ at DH's friend house. It was good to out.

I know how you feel. DH's dad died 7 yrs ago of a heart attack. And since he was cremated and his ashes were scattered like his dad requested, he doesn't have any place to go to pay his respects. And it really bothers him every holiday
I'm glad the day turned out nice for your DH. Your dad sounds like a great man.
